Our Story begins in the ordinary little town of Sylvania. Jessica Reynolds, a girl about sixteen, lived with her father, Steve. Steve was an average man with an average job as a scientist, but after work he would always come home and go straight to the basement. Jessica sometimes wondered why he spent so many hours down there and what he might be doing. She dare not enter the basement though, because her father would be furious.
One night Jessica was looking for the cat, Fluffy. As she called for the feline she heard her crying from the basement. She didn't know what to do, go into the basement to get fluffy so she wouldn't starve or leave her alone and go to bed?
