(Based on excerpt from “Hurricane” by Andrew Salkey. Salkey is a Jamaican novelist who wrote adolescent literature about experiences in the Caribbean.)

 

Instructions: After reading the passage answer the following questions.

 

1.      The narrator states that he was born in a town by the sea. Name at least two towns by the sea or town built by major rivers in the USA.

2.      He made up his mind that he was going to be a sailor. What is your career choice, and why?

3.      In the third paragraph, the narrator says “it is the time of the year when there are very bad storms on that part of the world.” What time of the year is that?

4.      Describe in details the possible effects of a very bad hurricane.
