Aim:
How do we improve on reading skills through the use of music and musicals?
STANDARDS
ADRESSED: Reading (E1), Writing (E1), Speaking, Listening and Viewing (E3),
Public Documents (E6)
Students
will (again) listening to the recording of the “Impossible Dream” theme song of
“Man of La Mancha”.
Students will listen to recording as they follow the text if the
lyrics.

Each
student will be given a copy of the “Impossible Dream”.
After listening and reading, a snap shot of the film will be viewed – the point where the theme song is sung.
Students will then produce two written pieces of work with “The
Impossible Dream” as the theme.
1. They will write a poem mimicking the theme song – using their own ideas.
2. “To
fight for the right without question or pause.”
Using this quotation as a title they will write a composition identifying
someone who fits this description. Students will write as much as they know,
and will be encouraged to use any new words they learned. (Charts will be
posted in classroom.)
BEFORE writing the essay descriptive words fitting this them would be elicited, discusses, and posted.
