This is a True Story, exactly the way it happened.
In the summer of 1959 I was living at North 4th St and Lawrence St, in Mount
Vernon Washington.
I was eight years old, I used to walk to a small second hand store on 3rd
St, to get there I walked to the end of Lawerence down a slight embankment,
then across Interstate 5, and down a steep embankment, across a rail road
track to Third St, one day as I left the store, I had just watched the train
go by only a couple minutes before I got to the tracks, as I did, I saw an
injured bee between the tracks, and started watching it, since a train had
just went by, I watched the bee figuring another train wouldn't be coming by
any time soon, less then a minute or so later a man walking by me said, little
boy theres a train coming, do you hear it? I said no, but then I got up and
listened and he walked on, I heard the faint rumbling of a train coming from
behind me and I got off the tracks, about 15 seconds later a train came
around the bend fast right over the spot I had been sitting, whoever that
man was, he saved me from a most gruesome death.
After the man said that to me, he went on walking, I don't think he even
looked back, he may not have realized what he had just done.
Sometimes, a few kind words, spoken to someone, at random, without much
thought, can profoundly change that persons entire existence.
