Game Summary

The Saint Joseph Saints moved to 6-0 on the season after a 6-4 exhibition win on Wednesday night in 11 innings against the Saint Wendel Saints in Saint Wendel.  St. Joe led 4-2 after four innings only to have St. Wendel tie it after five.  St. Joe had plenty of opportunities to score after the fourth, but left 15 men on base in the game.  However, Tom Kemper singled to right with one out in the top of the 11th to score two runs and give St. Joe the victory.  Offensively, St. Joe mustered 10 hits in the game, led by Brent Schloe, who finished 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Craig Hern doubled and had two RBIs and Kemper finished with two RBIs as well.  Hern also picked up the win on the mound with five solid innings of relief.  He allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out eight.

St. Joe jumped out early with two runs in the top of the first to take the lead.  Luke Schumer was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single by Schloe, and both runners scored on Hern's double to center.  St. Wendel got one back in the second to cut the lead in half, but St. Joe responded with two more in the fourth.  Bryan Rocheleau reached on an error and stole second.  Michael Carr then walked for the first of four times in the game and both runners completed a double steal to move to second and third.  Schumer followed with a single to right to score Rocheleau and Schloe reached on a fielder's choice to score Carr.  St. Wendel came back with one in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.  The score remained that way until the top of the 11th when St. Joe scored twice.  Schloe led off with a single, Hern was hit by a pitch for the third consecutive at bat, Keith Plekkenpol sacrificed for the third time in the game, and Kemper followed with a single to right to score Schloe and Hern.
