The Saint Joseph Saints moved to 4-0 on the 2007 season with a 10-0 victory over the Pearl Lake Lakers on Wednesday night at Schneider Field in a game that was ended after seven innings due to the 10-run rule. Both teams only had five hits in the game, but the Saints took advantage of 12 Laker walks and solid pitching to secure the win. Eli Stenman led the Saints at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brent Schloe went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Andy Schneider was 1-for-3 with two runs scored to aid in the win. Dan Klein started and went four innings to pick up his first amateur win on the mound. He allowed three hits, walked none, and had three strikeouts.
The Saints scored their first runs in the bottom of the second when they struck four times. Craig Hern, Andy Schneider, and Keith Plekkenpol all walked in order to load the bases. Steve Newman followed with a single to score Hern, and Bryan Rocheleau followed that with a groundout to score Schneider. Stenman then delivered a single to score Plekkenpol and by getting in a rundown between first and second, Stenman allowed Newman to score as well to make the score 4-0. The Saints tacked on two more in the fifth when Stenman reached on a bunt single, Jason Wald walked, Schloe doubled home Stenman, and Luke Schumer hit a sacrifice fly to score Wald. In the sixth, the Saints scored four more times to go up 10-0. Schneider singled and both Tom Kemper and Rocheleau walked to load the bases. Stenman then walked to score Schneider, Wald walked to score Kemper, Schloe reached on a fielder's choice to score Rocheleau, and a wild pitch scored Stenman.
