Game Summary

The Saint Joseph Saints won their second straight game with a 9-1 exhibition victory over the Saint Stephen Steves on Friday night at Schneider Field in Saint Joseph.  The Saints collected 12 hits in the game, led by Casey Haugen, who finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.  Luke Schumer hit a 2-run home run in the second inning and finished with four RBIs, and both Jason Wald and Tom Kemper had two hits each.  Chad Schwegel picked up the victory on the mound with five innings of work, allowing no runs on four hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.  Blake Cheeley earned the save by pitching the final four innings, allowing one run on four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

The Saints got on the board in the first inning when Haugen singled, stole second, went to third on a single by Brent Schloe, and scored on Schumer's groundout to make the score 1-0.  In the second, the Saints scored five times to open a commanding lead.  Steve Newman reached on an error, Tom Kemper singled, Aaron Rocheleau walked to load the bases, Haugen singled to shallow right to score Newman, Charlie Carr reached on a fielder's choice, Schloe hit a sacrifice fly to score Rocheleau and move Haugen to third, a wild pitch scored Haugen and moved Carr to second, and then Schumer hit his first home run of the season to right to score himself and Carr.  In the fourth, the Saints added two more runs to make the score 8-0.  Wald and Andy Schneider had back-to-back singles with two outs, Newman reached on an error to score Wald, and Kemper singled to score Schneider.  The Saints added their ninth and final run in the fifth after Haugen walked, stole second, moved to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on Schumer's groundout.  The Steves scored their lone run in the top of the eighth.
