The Saint Joseph Saints won the Lakewood League Central Division Playoffs on Saturday afternoon with a 6-2 victory over the Granite City Grays at Dick Putz Field. The Saints managed just seven hits in the game, led by Jason Wald, who finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Dan Scholand added a 2-run double and both Casey Haugen and Charlie Carr had a hit, run scored, and an RBI to aid in the win. Chad Schwegel picked up another complete game victory on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on three hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when Granite City put two unearned runs on the board after three Saint errors. The Saints came back, though, in the top of the seventh with their first runs of the game. Andy Schneider led off with a walk, Wald singled, and Carr singled to score Eli Stenman, who ran for Schneider. Carr then stole second and a wild pitch scored Wald and allowed Carr to advance to third. Carr later scored on a passed ball to put the Saints up 3-2. The Saints added three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth when Wald singled and stole second, Haugen singled Wald home, Aaron Rocheleau reached on a fielder's choice error, and Scholand doubled home both Haugen and Rocheleau to make the score 6-2.
