Game Summary

The Saint Joseph Saints ended in a 7-7 tie on Wednesday night in an exhibition game against the Avon Lakers in Avon.  The game ended after nine innings due to darkness.  After Eli Stenman stole home with the go ahead run in the top of the seventh inning with one out, Avon returned the favor in the bottom of the ninth by stealing home with the bases loaded and two outs to tie the game.  Offensively, Craig Hern led the Saints, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and an RBI to go along with three stolen bases.  Brent Schloe also finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Casey Haugen scored two runs.  There were no pitching decisions awarded in the game.

The Saints struck first in the top of the first inning when Haugen doubled, went to third on Charlie Carr's single, and scored when Schloe reached on a fielder's choice.  Avon tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second, but the Saints scored three more times in the fourth to take the lead again.  Schloe walked, Schumer singled, and Hern doubled into the left field corner to drive in Schloe and put runners on second and third.  After Andy Schneider singled to score Schumer, Hern stole third and eventually scored on an error.  Avon responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.  The score remained that way until the seventh when Haugen walked, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on Schloe's single up the middle.  After a flyout, Hern singled to move Schloe to third, Nick Percuoco walked to load the bases, and Aaron Rocheleau walked to score Schloe with the tying run.  In the top of the eighth, Stenman walked, Schloe singled to right and then stole second to put runners on second and third with one out.  On a 1-2 count, Stenman stole home to give the Saints the lead at 7.  However, in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and a 1-2 count, Avon tied the game by stealing home and the game ended in a 7-7 tie.
