The School

Front of School St. Joseph's Academy is a La Sallian post primary school, with eighteen teachers, one full - time secretary and one full - time caretaker. The school was established in 1939 by the De La Salle brothers.  Partly due to expanding numbers and partly due to a fire in 1986, a new modern building costing over  1 million , was completed. It comprises eight general classrooms, an art/crafts  room, a library, a computer room, a geography room, a gymnasium, an oratory, two science labs, a lecture theatre, plus offices, resource and toilet areas, a staff room and a kitchen area. We now have a thoroughly modern school from which the students and staff both benefit greatly.

The Philosophy of St. Joseph's Academy is based on the Christian ideals of John Baptist de La Salle (The founder of the De La Salle order) who devoted his life to the service of young people in education. Therefore the school places particular emphasis on encouraging the students to practice Christian ideals in their everyday lives.  There is an emphasis on character formation and on helping each student to reach his own unique potential. The Catholic and La Sallian ethos of the school facilitates openness, freedom and discipline among students. The school requests the co - operation of parents in transmitting its values and discipline. A Code of Discipline operates so that students learn the values of order, effort, self - development and learning in their lives.

Student activities are aimed at self - development, team - development and concern for humanity and the environment. School prayers, masses and retreats encourage students to develop their sense of faith and relationship with God as well as to appreciate their gifts and talents.
