[ The Student Council ]

St. Joseph's Academy Student Council was established in 1994 and it represents students' views and co-ordinates with activities such as lunch time games, visiting speakers, Debs, charity fund raising, school dance, shop etc. It has proved to be a great success. Its representatives attend La Sallian Leadership Courses and produce a school newsletter. The Student Council members attend the Annual Meeting of La Sallian schools which is a forum for sharing ideas and shaping school polices.

St. Joseph's Academy has many Student Council members. The current president of the Council is Patrick O' Hara. Vice president is David Boyle.  The council is very active and attempts to involve itself in as many school  affairs as possible. The council is divided up into two sectors: Junior & Senior. From 1st to 3rd year in the school, all Student Council members are seen as Junior members. 5th and 6th years are seen as the senior members. Each member is issued with a badge with our school's name and the word's ''Student Council'' printed on it.

[  Senior Prefects  ]

The school also has a group of Senior Prefects which also represent the school and help to voice other student's opinions. The Prefects are also involved in some of the school's activities  that the Student Council undertakes. However, unlike the Student Council, members only consist of 5th and 6th years. In co-operation with the school and the Student council, all Senior Prefects have taken part in a type of ''Big Brother'' scheme where each member is allocated to two 1st year students and they are there for academic and cordial assistance and support.

Each Senior Prefect is assigned to an area in the school which he helps to keep organised, for example the school shop, the library or litter in the school yard or corridors. This helps the school to move forward in an orderly fashion and all staff have confidence in the students and the jobs they have been assigned.

[ Parents Council ]

The school has an active and supportive Parents' Council which has helped with fund raising, seminars, trial interviews and social occasions. It has been represented at Annual La Sallian Conferences and other school functions. The Council co-operates with the provision of study skills days and language scholarships for Summer courses in Irish and French. The Parents Council is affiliated to the National Association of the Parents' Councils. Two members of the Parents' council are also members on the School's Board of Management along with two members of the school's staff (currently Mrs. Bernie O' Boyle and Mr. Liam O' Connell) and the parish priest. The Board of Management oversees the progress and development of the school and meets once each month during the school year. The Principal acts as Secretary to the Board of Management. Parents are always welcome to contact the school to discuss the ongoing progress of their students.
