St. Joseph's Academy has a proud tradition in Gaelic football. The school reached the provincial final in 1993 but unfortunately lost this under 16 decider to Colaiste Ris, Dundalk. The following year the senior footballers won the county senior 'A' title in February and opened their Leinster campaign with victories over Carlow  C.B.S and Colaiste Eoin, Stillorgan. They defeated Portlaoise C.B.S in the quarter final  before accounting for old rivals Patrician, Newbridge in a thrilling semi - final. Despite a gallant effort, the school lost by the narrowest of margins to Kells in the Leinster final.

In 1998 the seniors managed to retain the senior county title and once more progressed to the Leinster senior final with splendid victories along the way over Drimnagh Castle and Knockbeg College. However, the team were unable to overcome a resilient Enniscorthy side as they as they lost once more by the narrowest of margins. Since then, the school has continued to compete at this high level and has secured a number of under 16 and senior ('A') county titles.

The school has long been associated with providing players to numerous Kildare county teams - some notable names being Glenn Ryan, Noel and Leonard Donlon, Padraig Mullarkey and Peter Mc Connon. The school teams were formerly trained by Mr. O' Loughlin, however now Glenn Ryan, a member of staff of  St. Joseph's Academy, currently trains the school teams with Mr. Tom Hartnett.
