Principal's Note.

St. Joseph's Academy has been a post - primary boys school in the La Sallian tradition in Kildare Town since the early twentieth century. The brothers established a primary school in Kildare in 1884 following their arrival in Ireland in 1880. The centenary of 1884 led to the production of the very historic De La Salle Cill Dara Centenary Yearbook.  Since then, the building has been modernised through the co - operation of the Past Pupils, staff, parents, students, Brothers and the Department of Education & Science.

School has become less authoritarian and much more a co - operative culture as the new ethos permeates through to all interest groups in the school community. Parent councils and Student councils now have important roles in shaping policies and curricular priorities. The building of good human relationships, mutual respect and trust are central in the modern La Sallian school. There is a strong spirit of Christian service to others in the world who are disadvantaged and students are encouraged to raise funds for numerous charities, especially the La Sallian Mission in education abroad.

I would like to thank all who contributed to St. Joseph's Academy and its tradition. Past Pupils are welcome to return and cherish the memories of their time here. Present pupils are appreciated for every positive idea or action which makes our school the place that we are proud of in the 21st Century. Staff and parents work well together in the interest of the students. Communication is vital and our systems and our prospectus are further enhanced by the development of our website. The task has been completed by Ian Talbot, a 6th year Leaving Certificate student 2002/2003. I congratulate Ian and thank him for the time, commitment and dedication that he put into its production.

We go forward from here with courage and faith - Animo et Fide.

Eamonn Mulvihill,  B.A., M.Ed., H.DIP.E., Principal.
