Parents: The recent A.G.M. of the Parent's Council was held on October 7th 2002. There were representatives nominated and elected for all classes. Chairman: Niall Lynch. Secretary: Ms. Liz Scanlon. Treasurer: Ms. Sandra Brennan.
La Sallian: The Student Council/Prefects leadership-training weekend took place in Castletown Pastoral Centre on September 6th/7th. Twelve students attended with teams from De La Salle Waterford and Oranmore, Galway. Principals of all De La Salle schools met in Mid - October in Mullingar.
Tours: The second year annual tour to Achill took place on October 2nd/8th with Mr. Ruddy and Ms. Williams. Thirty - two students travelled to London on October 31st to November 2nd and the tour was organised by Mr. Wilkins.
Leaving Cert 2002: All three re-checks applied for were upgraded following the viewing of exam scripts.
Amalgamation of Schools: No definite decision has yet been made by the Department of Education and Science on the site for the new Community school in Kildare. A schedule of accommodation has been issued since May 2002 and all interest groups are kept informed of developments.
Student Council/Prefects: The Student Council and prefects have set up the Big Brother scheme to help 1st years to settle into school life at the Academy. Lunchtime games and other activities are organised with the assistance of the Council and Prefects.
Debs 2003: Debs Committee has set a July 17th date for the Debs at the Ambassador Hotel.
Open Day: There will be and Open Afternoon form 2:00pm - 6:00pm on Sunday November 17th at St. Joseph's Academy which will provide and opportunity for new applicants to view the school with parents for entry in 2003.
Best Wishes: Best wishes to Mr. Glenn Ryan, staff member, and to Josephine who got married on Friday October 25th 2002. We wish them good health and happiness in their future lives.
Class of 1962: The Leaving Certificate class of 1962 came together for a remarkable and enjoyable reunion on October 4th 2002 after forty years. Twelve out of seventeen members were able to re-visit the school, meet preset staff and pupils and enjoy and entire weekend in Kildare. Two former teachers, Mr. Martin Ryan and Mr. Willie Walsh joined the class for a reception put on by the Student Council/Prefects and staff.
Nice Referendum: A referendum for all students and staff members held in our school on the Friday prior to the National vote showed the following results: Yes 57% No: 42%. Previous votes in National and Presidential elections have been close to the general outcome in the state.
Board of Management: The Board of Management changes in St. Joseph's Academy in Mid - October. It has a three - year term of office . It represents trustees, staff and parents of students. The new Board members are: Fr. Adrian Carbery, Ms. Sandra Brennan, Ms. Ann Cleary, Ms. Bernie O' Boyle, Mr. Liam O' Connell, Brother Stan Madigan (De La Salle), Mr. Aidan Mc Keown and Ms. Esther Brady. The Principal, Mr. Eamonn Mulvihill is Secretary to the Board of Management.
