Scene 7

Curtain opens on Tom's apartment.  Things are as they were in scene 6, except the glass has been cleaned up.  Christine stand in the kitchen, making tea.  Tom is sitting on the couch, visibly in much better spirits now.

Christine:  Trust me, you are going to love this tea.

Tom:
(laughing)  I don't even like tea, you goof!  It doesn't matter if it's the best tea in the world, it's still tea!

Christine:  Will you just shut up and trust me?
(She brings a tray over with the pot of tea on it and sets it on the coffee table in front of the couch)

Tom:  Ok, ok,  So, what makes this tuff any different?  What's in it?

Christine:  Honey, lemon juice, and cat urine.
(Obviously teasing) Now drink it and find out you like it.

Tom:
(laughs)  You're a dork.  Give me the kitty urine tea.

(She hands him a cup.  He sniffs it, and then siups it slowly.)

Tom:  Wow, that is good...It doen't even taste like tea.

Christine:  See?  There you go, Christine proves right again.  Infallible as always.

Tom: Infallable.

They sit there, quietly for a few seconds, sipping the tea, looking at each other.  It should be obvious that they are infatuated with each other.

Tom: This is unreal.  I mean I feel like I'm in a dream.  After three years, you just show up.  It's like you're back from the dead.  This is just...I mean...you're here!!

Christine:
(smiling) Well I'm glad you liked my surprise entrance.  I was afraid I'd be interrupting something.  I didn't want to come at a bad time.

Tom: No, no, it's not a bad time at all.  You just got here when I least expected you to.

Christine: Hehe.  I told you I'd be back when you least expected it.  I...I've missed you Tommy.  Alot.

Tom: I've missed you too Chris...

Pause.  Their eyes linger on one another.

Tom:  Wow, wait till everyone finds out yu're back!  We've got to call Gabe and tell him!

Christine: Oh Gabe knows.  I called him a couple days ago and told him.  I wanted to make sure you'd be available, and I made him promise not to tell.

Tom: What's this?  Deceiving me?  Keeping secrets?  Tsk, tsk, I don't think God would approve.

Christine: Oh shut up, you of all people should talk about keeping secrets.

Tom: Well I'm not an agent of God.  You have a reputation to keep.

Christine: Well then it's a good thing secret keeping isn't a hellworthy trespass.  You like your tea?

Tom: Yeah, thank you.  This is just the thing I need.  It's been a bad week.

Christine: Oh?  Is everything ok?

Tom:
(thinking, looking at her) Yeah, actually, everything is much better now.

They both move in, about to kiss, when there is a knock on the door.

Tom: (sighs) I'll get that.

Christine: Oh...um..yeah, ok.

Tom answers the door to find Judith, Tom is a little stunned by this.

Tom: Judith, what...what are you doing here?

Judith: Well, trying to make amends.  I was hoping you might be just a little happy to see me.

Tom: Oh, no, its not that, I just, well, I wasn't expecting you, that's all.

Judith: I come at a bad time?

Tom: Well...

Christine stands up from the sofa.

Christine: Tommy?  Who's at the door?

Judith: Uh...hello.  Tom...who's this?

Tom:
(awkward) Judith, this is Christine, my best friend.  She recently got back from India.  Christine, this is Judith, my...um...

Judith: Your girlfriend, I hope?

Tom: Yeah, my girlfriend.  Judith, this isn't a good time, can I call you later?

Judith: As long as you have good news?

Tom: Yeah, well, we'll talk, ok?

Judith: Ok.  Well, it was nice meeting you Christine.

Christine: And you.

Judith: Bye hun.
(She kisses him on the cheek, and then exits.  Tom closes the door.)

Christine: So...that was your girlfriend?

Tom: Yeah.  I'm sorry, I should've told you.

Christine: Oh no, that's ok, I knew.

Tom: You did?

Christine: Yeah, Gabe told me.  He's my little messenger, keeps me in touch with the real world.

Tom: What else did he tell you?

Christine: Oh, I know everything, and even if he didn't tell me, you know I'd get it out of you sooner or later, I can read you like a book.
(smiles)

Tom: Yeah, you always could.

Christine: So...you going to get back with her, work things out?

Tom: Yeah, I guess so.  I mean, she made a mistake, and she knows it, I can understand that, its not like I'm perfect.

Christine: Well, be careful.  Be true to your heart and all that, you know?

Tom: I know.  Its good to have you here, I can always use your advice.
(He hugs her)

Christine: (softly) I know.  I know.
