Scene 6

Lights up on Toms apartment.  Tom lies on the couch motionless, the mirror has been shattered, fragments of it hanging from the frame.  Chards of glass litter the floor in front of it.  The phone rings, Tom does not answer it.  It continues to ring a few more times and stops.  There is a knock at the door.  Tom remains motionless on the couch.  The door opens and we see Gabe.

Gabe:
Tom?
(He looks around) You here?  Youre door is unlocked.  Tom?

Gabe walks into the house.  He walks past the broken mirror, but does not appear to notice it.

Huh, I wonder where he isI wonder how things went with Judith.  Hed leave her if he knew what was good for him.  Ah well.  I suppose Ill catch him later.

Gabe exits, closing door behind him.  After a few beats the door opens again, it is Judith.

Judith: Tom?  Are you here?
(She enters.) Look, Tom, Im really sorry, I am.

As she is saying this she is walking in front of the broken mirror, and we can hear the sound of her steps on the broken pieces of mirror.  She does not appear to notice this.

I know you probably dont want to talk to me.  Oh, you probably arent even here.

She exits, walking over the broken glass again as she does.  Tom continues to lie motionless on the couch.  Another knock is heard.  The door opens.  This time we see Christine.  She is dressed in hippie looking home-made clothes.  She has sense of natural beauty.

Christine:
Tommy?  Surprise!  Im back!  I know I didnt call ahead or anything, but I figured Id surprise you.  Hey, where are you?
(She walks in, stops at the mirror.) Oh my goodness, Tommy, what happened to your mirror?

Tom sits up suddenly.

Oh!  There you are!

Tom:
You noticed

Christine:
Are you alright?

Tom:
(smiling) Yeah, Im great.

He jumps up and runs over to her.  They embrace.
