Grades K-3 will have the following books read
to them during their library time. A chart will
keep track of the books that have been read to them. The kindergarten
class may not have all of the books read because of the length of some
of the books. In April they will vote for their favorite story and
I will send the results to Lincoln to be counted.

Grades 4-6 will have to read four of the
following books by mid April, one per quarter. There are mulitple copies in the library and they can check out any of these books from another library or borrow them from someone else. In mid April they will be called up individually to vote for their favorite book. All of the books this year are Accelerated Reader titles. The students have to simply take the test on the book and it is recorded in the gradebook. This is a requirement for their grade. These books may be combined with their class reading. Below is the list of titles for them to select from:

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. An eleven-year-old and his sister are pulled into an underground world.

Ida B...And Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World by Katherine Hannigan. Fourth-grader Ida B is happy until her mother gets cancer and she must go to public school.

Worth by A. LaFaye. Eleven-year-old Nate feels worthless when he breaks his leg and his father brings home an orphan to help on the Nebraska farm.

Shredderman: Secret Identity by Wendelin VanDraanen. Fifth-grader Nolan creates a "cyber-superhero" alter ego to avenge himself and his classmates from a bully.

The Young Man and the Sea by Rodman Philbrick. Skiff has lost his mother and is losing his father to drinking. He enters a fish hunt to help solve his problems.

Locomotion by Jacqueline Woodson. Eleven year old Lonnie uses poems to tell about his life after the death of his parents and separation from his sister.
