Comments:

This weekend we played Glenmore Park Red.  Michael Lovegrove was the captain for the day.  We won the toss and elected to bowl on a wet track.  Glenmore Park Red won the match on first innings, after a much improved showing by our team from their previous game against the Reds.

Against easily the best team in the competition, our bowlers performed extremely well and our fielding was enthusiastic, although we continue to drop too many catches to be competitive.

Our bowlers performed well, with Jalay Bell (5-0-2-19) and  Brett South (5-0-1-15) opened the bowling strongly.  Ethan Willard (4-0-0-14) backed up the openers well and Jayden Kostrubiec (5-1-1-14) bowled a dangerous line and length.  Michael Lovegrove (2-0-1-10) continues to bowl excellently in the middle order while Cameron Findley (2-0-0-9) and Adam Gradidge (2-0-0-9) returned their best bowling figures ever.   Brendan Ross (4-1-0-16) bowled strongly and was unlucky not to take a wicket and Ben Pagett (3-0-0-15) bowled accurately after his stint as wicketkeeper.  Owen De Silva (2-0-0-12) and Hasan Kemal (2-0-0-18) both supported the team well in their bowling.  From 36 overs, Glenmore Park scored 5-160, with only 42 sundries.

Our batting was patchy, but we stayed in for 30 overs against a top line bowling team, scoring all out for 42.  Special mention goes to Brendan Ross (3 runs), who, aside from having retired hurt early in his innings, stayed in for the entire innings and was the last batsman out.  Ben Pagett (2 runs) looked comfortable until he was bowled.  Brett South (17 runs) batted strongly and looked at ease until he was run out by a brilliant piece of fielding, one of two runouts against us.  These were the only players to score runs, although Jayden Kostrubiec stayed in for 9 minutes, Adam Gradidge for 10 minutes and Cameron Findley for 17 minutes.

We are still playing too many cross bat shots and that is reflected in the number of players we had out bowled. We need to defend our wickets better.  We also need to hit the ball into the gaps and take runs when they are on offer, and to move our feet when we play the ball.  Too many of us are standing still and swinging wildly at balls on the stumps and by not scoring runs, we are allowing the other team to move their fielders in close.  Our catching and general fielding is still poor and needs practice, although we are improving.  We must learn to WALK IN with the bowler, to have us moving when the ball comes our way.  Glenmore Park gave us a good example of excellent play in the field.

Our enthusiasm was great this week and it was good to hear players backing each other.   It was also good to see players moving themselves into position and not waiting for the coach to make the call.  Even the Glenmore Park coach commented on how much we had improved and I was proud of our effort today.
