Sculptures by G.T. McCall
I know that to many this cone plainly baffled and was amusingly transformed into a tourist attraction of sorts.  But, this interpretive sculpture symbolized how we as a society have made science and scientists into the dominant and altruistic purveyors of truth.

No longer seeking the intuitive and the spiritual as fountains of another truth, we are left only with the cold clumsy butcher's knife of rationalization.

Thus, the three light bulbs atop the cone, symbolizing the trinity are not lit, while the infamous quote of Nietschze "God is Dead, God Remains Dead.  And WE have killed him"  warning us of what has become, surrounds the base of this piece.

This behemoth piece of sculpture is based on my woodblock print entitled "Existential Melancholy."
It took me approximately 3 months, 3 blisters, and much intestinal fortitude to complete.

It  is made out of soapstone, which as you can see gives a rich dark color when polished.
