Engine Repower
HOME
After 30 years, my trusty little Volvo diesel was getting tired. It started overheating and after an internal inspection, was found to have a good bit of build up and corrosion.  I opted to repower, instead of rebuild.

I basically "gave away" the old engine on Ebay.

Here's the new owner taking possession.
After the engine was removed, the engine compartment needed a good cleaning.

When the engine bilge was all clean, I gave it a good coat of Interlux Bilge-Kote.
The new engine had a larger exhaust, so I went ahead and replaced the entire exhaust system with 2 inch hose.  This included a new Vetus waterlift muffler and Gooseneck.  I also replaced the tailpipe on the transome.

I decided that since the 3/4 inch drive shaft was too short and had to be replaced, it should be upgraded to 7/8 inch.
It seemed like every step of this progect required a chage or upgrade.  As it turned out, I did not measure very well before deciding on the new engine.  When the engine was dry fitted, it was too narrow side to side and too long front to back for my current engine support bracket.
The new engine supports were mounted and the engine fit perfectly.

On to the next step and the next problem ...
the exhaust muffler sits sort of high behind the engine (grey box at very top of picture).  The standard riser put a bit too much dip in the hose.  I installed the optional "high-rise" elbow.
