Chapter 2: Falling Down

***********************************************************************

Charlotte almost laughed when she saw the master in front of her.

“League scum.” Warren said. “I’ll beat you for the honor of the rebellion!”

            She blinked. And blinked again.

            “Vaporeons, go!”

Well, out came three Vaporeons. Warren smirked and summoned up a ball of water energy in his hands. “Ready to give up?”

            “No.”

“You’re going to lose then.” Warren said. “Vaporeons! Hydro Pump!”

Four blasts of water shot at the fire master, who simply smirked and vanished.

“Teleport? Fire masters can’t do that?!”

Charlotte smirked as she casually knocked out one of his Vaporeons with her Fire Blade, the flames encircling the bronze hilt.

            “Don’t underestimate the League.”

“Hydro Pump! Flood this whole area!” Warren commanded, releasing his Blastoise as well.

            “Moltres, special attack. Drought.”

Instantly, the area became extremely dry and arid, causing no small amount of discomfort to the people and water pokemon there.

            “Now. Heat Beam.”

Warren gasped as he felt something strike his body and all of a sudden his temperature shot way up. “What-.”

He was cut off form saying anything else as something solid connected with the back of his head. Charlotte loaded his unconscious form onto her Moltres and took off for League HQ.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

The Dragon Master smiled as he stalked down the hallways of Indigo Plateau. “She’s back.”

Gary didn’t even look up from his perusal of an interesting playboy magazine.

Lance ignored him and greeted Charlotte.

“I’ve got one. Water master, you can interrogate him when he wakes up, but I’m pretty sure they’ve got Ash.”

Lance inclined his head and smiled, showing his sharp little fangs.

“Excellent work. Take a day off.”

            “Hai!”

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

Misty looked at the clock. Then she looked again.

“It’s been five hours and Warren still isn’t back yet! What if he’s in trouble?”

“Chill out, Misty. Just because he’s your boyfriend… besides, he’s probably still exploring.” Erika said.

            “I’m being serious!”

“When has a water master ever lost to a fire master? It just isn’t done.” Pryce remarked.

Sheila nodded. “Look, if you’re so worried about him, why don’t you go take a look outside?”

Misty looked at Agatha, who shrugged and waved a hand carelessly. “You’ve got my permission.”

Misty immediately ran out after Warren.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

“Target sighted.” Falkner said, putting down his binoculars.

Bugsy adjusted her green cloak, smirking slightly. “I can take her.”

“All right, but Pidgeot n’ I will be here for backup just in case.”

Bugsy nodded and silently dropped down from the branch, Ariados perched on her shoulder.

            “Long time no see, Misty.”

Misty spun around and looked at Bugsy. “You! You’re still with the league, aren’t you?” She said.

“Guessed right.” Bugsy smiled. “Ariados! Spider Web!”

Misty quickly released her Starmie with a Shuriken attack, cutting through the webbing, but it was just a ploy as Bugsy’s Beedrill crept behind her and unleashed Twinneedle.

Misty screamed like a stuck pig as the pincers drilled into her back.

“Give up?” Bugsy asked, as two more Spinarak dropped down and tied Misty’s legs together.

“Never!” Misty said. “Starmie! Shuriken again!”

Bugsy jumped up out of the way as her Beedrill sent wave of Poison Stings after Starmie.

Misty immediately released Seaking, commanding a Waterfall to knock out the Spinaraks. One fell, but the other latched onto Seaking’s tail and started using Leech Life.

Bugsy then used a Spore attack, putting Misty to sleep, before she whistled.

Falkner flew down, his brown-and-white wings beating softly behind him.

            “Let’s go.”

“One of the worst mistakes the rebellion made was trying to kidnap the Shadow master.” Falkner said, as Pidgeot took flight.

“Yes. They obviously didn’t know about the bond he shares with a few others. It allows us to keep an eye on him.”

Bugsy smiled as she followed on his Noctowl.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

“What do you mean Misty is gone?” Erika demanded.

“We can’t find her.” Pryce said. “We’ve searched the entire area.”

“What if the League has her?” A voice piped up.

“I will check.” Agatha said, closing her eyes and using her ghost power to scan the area. After a while, she sighed.

“Misty is not within 10 miles of here. Neither is Warren. And I feel the presence of a flying-type master.”

            “What?!” Brock said.

“Where could she be?” Surge demanded.

            “I don’t know…”

“Argh! I’ll go look.” Brock was about to leave, when Erika grabbed his arm.

“Oh no you don’t! If they still have masters out there, you might wind up captured!”

“But!” Erika shot Brock a look and he shut up.

            “Flying is weak to rock!”

“And Fire was weak to water, and both Misty and Warren disappeared after they ran out carelessly.” Agatha replied.

“It could be a trap.” Sheila agreed.

            Brock sulked.

“I could do it.” Surge argued.

“No. Besides Richie you’re our only electric master. We can’t risk it.”

‘We really can’t spare anyone.” Whitney said in a small voice.

“That is correct.” Pryce said. “We can only hope they are merely lost.”

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

Warren groaned as he was prodded awake. He gasped. The league had captured him! How had he lost to that fire master…

“So you’re awake.” A cold voice stated.

Warren stared at the speaker. The dragon master stared back unflinchingly.

            “C-Claire?”
“Hello, you traitor.” She said. “Ditching the league like that.”

“The league is evil! Why did you stay?”

“Because. My cousin is never wrong.” Claire replied simply before she backhanded him. “And I’ll be the one asking the questions. Do you have Ashura?”

            “I’ll never tell!” Warren vowed.

“Really?” Claire asked. “Perhaps I can give you some incentive… Dragonair! Hyper Beam!”

Warren screamed as the attack hit him, and he instinctively reached for his poke belt before he realized that it was gone.

“Ready to talk now?” Claire asked.

            “Never!”

“Fine.” Claire said. She stood up. “You’re wasting my time, anyways. I’ll get someone else to do this.”

Her heels clacked on the floor as she left.

A few minutes later, Warren abruptly shivered as he felt an icy chill in the air.

“This will all go much simpler if you just talk.” A cold voice stated.

            Warren looked up.

Lance smiled. “Are you sure you’re not going to talk?”

            “Never!”

“Well, that just makes it more difficult.” He said, sighing. “Ah well.” He crossed his arms and Warren screamed like a stuck pig.

            “W-what?!”

As he looked at himself, he saw cuffs of ice appear around his wrists and ankles. The ice began spreading up his arms and legs.

“How is this possible?! You’re not an ice master!”

Lance shrugged. “None of your concern. Either way, you’ll be frozen solid soon enough. So why don’t you just tell me what I need to know. Does the rebellion have Ashura?”

“Never! I won’t betray our cause!”

“Too bad.” Lance said, standing up, as the ice continued to creep up Warren’s prone form. “Maybe your girlfriend will be more willing to talk.”

            This got Warren’s attention. “Misty?!”

The Dragon Master smiled and started walking away.

“Misty! What have you done to her?!”

“Nothing yet, but if you won’t talk she will.”

The temperature dropped another ten degrees. Warren continued to shiver uncontrollably before he became a block of ice.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

            Misty gradually regained her senses.

“So you’re awake.” A cold voice stated.

Misty looked up into a pair of silver eyes and suddenly had a very bad feeling.

Lance smirked. “So, simple question. You have Ashura?”

            “I’ll never tell!”

“That’s what Warren said.” Lance shrugged. “But then, I doubt he’ll do talking of any sort.”

“What have you done to him?!” Misty demanded.

“Well…” Lance’s eyes flashed as an illusion formed in front of him. Inside, Misty could see Warren frozen as an ice statue.

            “LIAR!”

“Yell as much as you’d like.” Lance said. “If you don’t answer, I’ll simply have Karen do the painful extraction.”

He laughed mirthlessly as he exited the room.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

Charlotte closed her eyes as she scanned for Ash’s chi. * Good, not dead, just subdued. All he needs to do is to open the gates to the dream realm anyways. *

            < He’ll be fine? >

“I think so, Will.” Charlotte said, making a respectful nod.

Will nodded and adjusted his mask as he focused. < So who is their psychic master? >

            “Actually, I think its Agatha.”

< What?! Why would she sell out the League? >

“You’ll have to ask Karen, she probably knows more than me.”

            Will drifted off.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

“I have no idea.” Karen replied to Will’s query as she stood over a fainted Misty. “Gengar’s Dream Eater worked wonders again.”

Karen’s Gengar glowed at the praise.

“So now we know for sure that they have Ashura.’
            < Excellent. > Will replied.

Karen smiled at him pityingly. “It’s hard being a master, isn’t it?”

Will sighed. < I feel like I have no will of my own sometimes… >

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

Misty groaned as she woke up. * My head… *

            She felt strange.

            “What happened?”

Laughter filled the air. “You tried to resist the league and failed.”

Misty looked up and saw Claire and Lance, standing in the doorway.

“It’s too late. We know everything you know…”

Misty froze – what had happened?
            “What did you?!”

“Oh, I didn’t do anything.” Lance said. “But… ask Karen.”

Claire and her cousin walked off without another word.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

“Open the gates to the dream realm. Sacrifice phoenix temporarily to summon thunderbird!”

A few minutes later, all hell broke loose.

Shadow, dark, and light pokemon swarmed the base, tearing into the metal and concrete structure like a sledgehammer hitting a ripe watermelon.

Charlotte smiled, as she watched from inside the dream realm. * Only two hours, and then I can go back. *

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

            “We’re under attack!”

Agatha quickly surrounded the main conference room, where the masters were still gathered, with a barrier.

Soon, they saw the approaching wave of pokemon.

            “Oh shoot!”

“Stay back.” Agatha ordered in her gravely voice. “Save your energy to attack when this defense goes down.”

The masters nodded as they and their pokemon prepared for war.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

            In the lab area…

Nurse screamed as Ash suddenly appeared outside the containing field.

“You lose.” He said. “Mewtwo…. I choose you.”

All of a sudden, one of the pokemon that had been attacking the upper layer materialized. It was a regular mewtwo, but it seemed darker.

            “Mewtwo…. Kill them all.”

< As you wish, > the psychic cat sent.

            Screams echoed through the halls.
