Whee!

Lance: …

Phantomness: Well, I’m trying not to make it too clichéd.

Ash: It’s different.

Shoyko: It’s not darkfic, is it?

Phantomness: No. Sorry Shoyko, it might turn dark later.

Shoyko: *Looking overworked* It’s fine if it’s not dark!

Kairo: So, Lollipop, anyone? Humor’s always good!

Chapter 3

“So, I won’t worry at all?”

Lance chuckled. “I don’t think you need to worry yet.”

Foresight said three to five years of peace, so he would be very careful… until then, the little one was his to take care of.

Ash grinned. “You’re probably right, Lance-chan.”

After all, he would take care of him like he had done.

Haunter floated by proudly. < Oh, I wouldn’t worry about anything, Ash. >

            < I see… >

Really, he didn’t feel like worrying in either case, he was more than ready to drown in the pleasant warmth of reality.

He purred as Lance wrapped his arms around him.

< Kirei, pretty little one. >

            < I’m not that pretty. >

< No, but you shine with starlight. > Lance whispered.

            < Oh? >

< You’ll find out when you grow older. >

            < All right. >

He wouldn’t fight the peace he had right now. Why break a dream, or at least sweetness? It would just be a waste of time and energy.

< You might want to summon a few more pokemon though, Haunter might not be the best in every situation. >

Ash nodded, he was not going to put his guardian in more risk.

            < Okay. >

His eyes closed, as he chose three.

Pidgeot. Arcanine. Sedgewolfe. The latter was a dual grass/electric type. A light green wolf with yellow stripes and darker green stripes on its chest and front legs plus small tufts of leaves on its front paws Wolves were always loyal, and he liked using them.

            Multiple elements also helped.

Pidgeot and Arcanine always stuck by him.

            Yes, it worked out well.

            Just in case though…

Ash added Vaporeon. He had always been fond of water types, and eevees. There, that ought to do it.

He didn’t want to overstretch his magic though. Must be careful with that… don’t want to drain too far, or else he couldn’t keep Lance-chan here with him.

He didn’t want to be alone anymore.

            He liked his company.

It would be very pretty, the future.

They teleported to Cerulean next

Misty was waiting.

She knew, or at least she suspected, but then again, she was Missingno, so it really didn’t make much difference.

She fought.

She lost.

She wanted revenge…

But she couldn’t touch him.

Poor pathetic thing, she didn’t realize that she would only be free if she let go of her anger and misplaced loyalty.

Well, it was her mistake, so she could deal with it later.

Ash hugged Sedgewolfe to his chest, happily.

Yes, it helped to be a card guardian… it helped quite a bit, but he didn’t want to abuse his power. Plus, the magic drain keeping five real cost-heavy so there was a trade-off too.

Well, C’est la vie.

They walked along the Route to Lavender.

“Is there a particular reason you are not going to Vermilion?”

“My mom’s supposed to live there.” Ash frowned. “I don’t want to see her.”

“Ah…”

“Maybe she does have a reason, but I don’t want to know it! For all intents and purposes she’s dead.”

“Fine by me.”

Pidgeot cawed, warning of danger in the form of two Mankey up ahead.

“Pidgeot, you can take care of them in an instant. Razor Wind.”

The bird cawed, flapping her wings. She was one of Ash’s favorites… like Windy, almost.

The two Mankey went flying over the horizon.

Oh, but it was so hard! Life was hard and it was no easy task to be fair. Because, fact was that… fairness was overrated.

Of course it wasn’t fair!

Life wasn’t fair though, so he dealt with all the problems that way. He didn’t have the best life but he was far from the worst, so he was content. Be happy with what you have and don’t fight too much.

In the end, it is just a waste.

They picked blueberries by the stream and swam in the water together, and it was fine. Just fine.

They climbed mountains together, camped out and sang songs by a small campfire. They ran through the dream realm, playing and training. They collected the rest of the badges. They participated in the annual Dewford City Ice-cream tasting contest, which was a real treat.

They explored Kanto, Johto, Houen, and even Cosmos.

Life was good enough.

Two and a half years passed.

That was when Bob became the leader of the Elite Four.
