Chapter 2: Let’s use Action

The experimental section of GATTACA Corp. exploded in a brilliant exhibit of fireworks. Red, blue and yellow flaming flowers filled the air.

Three Chosen smiled as they sat watching the carnage on T.V.

“Well… looks like ours did a good job.”

“They did indeed. They’re always working.” Lance commented.

Ash poured himself another glass of vanilla coke and drank some. “So, what now?”

“I’m not sure.” Charlotte said, pulling out a notepad. “Let’s see, Sabrina’s fine… don’t look so worried, Ash.”

            “I’m not.”

“She can take care of herself, she’s not a guardian for nothing… and you have no cards with you right now, plus they feed off the dream realm, so don’t fret.”

            “I won’t!”

“What’s really left to do, though? The timeline seems peaceful enough.”
Lance coughed. “I predict Zackie will discover some new dark power that won’t hurt us but will be life-threatening enough to cause trouble.”

            “Really?”

“History does tend to repeat itself.”

Charlotte gulped down two steaming-hot lattes and turned another page in her notebook. “Well… what else might happen?”

“I’m not the seer, Lance-chan is.”

“And I don’t use my foresight that much. Sometimes I only see what can’t be changed.” The Dragon Master defended herself.

            “We’re not accusing you…”

Charlotte drank down another cup of caffeine-loaded brew and shook her head. “So, what else is new?”

            “Life in general?”

“Have you finally conquered your hydrophobia?”

“Unfortunately not, the curse will probably be stuck with me forever…”

I hate my life. Ruby muttered.

She lived only for revenge now. A rattata! She had been turned into a Rattata, of all things! Useless creatures…

Maybe she would evolve to raticate soon.

Zackie was not that good of a trainer, but he tried… in a way. However, his training methods were harsh and uncaring.

Ruby glared. * If I ever get back to my human body, I’m putting him under investigation.*

But first, she wanted revenge on not only the Champion, but the Dragon Master as well. _He_ had done this.

            It wasn’t fair!

The next day, Charlotte flew back to Cosmos for a meeting, while Ash battled yet another hopeless trainer.

            “Go! Geodude!” Amos shouted.
“You have got to be kidding me…” Ash whispered. “Vaporeon, you’re up girl…” The Vaporeon card was more than happy to oblige.

One geodude down, two geodudes down, three…

Is his entire team geodudes? That would be a complete waste of time…

            “Go! Magneton! Thunder!”

Now that made things more interesting. Double team wouldn’t really work, and Acid Armor could just cause more conduction.

Ash snapped his fingers. “Baton Pass.”

Vaporeon swapped for Dugtrio. The three-headed mole was more than happy to use Earthquake, downing Magneton.

            What a pity.

Amos glared and then used his Steelix, ah, that might prove amusing… Steelix tunneled underground as well.

Soon, cracks appeared all over the arena. A triumphant Steelix emerged, carrying a Dugtrio.

            “Hah! Take that!”

Ash rolled his eyes. < Quit faking, Dugtrio. >

I was just having some fun…

< I know, but I’d like to finish this match. >

So you can spend more time with your mate? The mole card teased.

            < DUGTRIO! >

            < All right, I’m on it! >

When Steelix dropped Dugtrio, at the same time lowering its guard, a Fissure took the field.

            It’s a one-hit KO!

It need not be clarified how that particular set was concluded.

Amos groaned. * Oh no… what do I do now? I better not use Golem; that would just be a waste… *

He pushed a few pokédex buttons and switched pokemon. Taking the newly arrived poke ball out, he released the creature within.

Bellossem smiled happily, using Sweet Scent to stop an evading Dugtrio, before an Attract befuddled the pokemon further.

            “Nice…” Ash commented, recalling his.

Bellossem flooded the arena with sweet scent, confident in her abilities. A Ninetails came and faced her.

            Petal Dance!

The petals flew in all directions, hard for ninetails to evade. Still…

            Flamethrower!

A torched grass-type was severely limited.

Ninetails preened her shiny fur daintily.

Amos glared, but refused to leave the platform. There were benefits to his illegal actions, by selling slowpoketails he had made millions of dollars and of course had invested in secretive, new technology.

Opening his vest, he revealed a computer?

Pushing down one button, the pokédex limiting factor was disabled. Poke balls began dropping out like crazy, pokemon swarming out.

Ash transformed, Destiny taking his place as cruel cold eyes studied the multitude. Golden wings glinted, clashing with black feathers, the white that framed his face mostly shadowed to grey.

“Let’s finish this.” He rasped in a gravelly voice.

            Amos stepped back, startled. “What?”

            “Dark Thunder.”

Those poor pokemon… well, those who were pure of heart were spared, those stained were not.

Amos would not be able to compete again, either way, corpses can’t do that.

Ash finished and undid the spells, having already woven the room in illusions to hide his actions.

You can never be too careful.

Smiling, he recalled his pokemon, healed them, and then skipped off to get a snack with Lance-chan.

            Dichotomy.

It’s not exactly light and dark, but it works.
