Part 3

“Team Rocket!” Green said, startled. “But we thought you were broken up years ago!”

Bill gulped. * Why did I get dragged along? *

“We escaped before Silph fell.” Surge said. “But now isn’t the time to be talking. We’re here to destroy the Elite Four. What about you?”

The trainers held a quick conference and nodded.

“Let’s pair up.” Blue said. “Otherwise, we’ll interfere with each other. After all, there’s eight of us and four of them.”

            “Interesting.” Sabrina said. “Alakazam!”

Alakazam pulled out a bunch of spoons and handed each one. “These are the spoons of Destiny.”

“The ones that bend will be partnered. Alakazam will read your thoughts about battle, and convey them into pairs.”

The first two spoons bent. Yellow looked up, startled, and saw that Surge had the other spoon.

The next two bent. Blaine looked at Bill, who shrugged helplessly.

            More bending…

“Guess I’m with you.” Blue said, wondering why he had been partnered with Green. * No! I didn’t want to be partnered with her! *

Koga shrugged and turned to Sabrina. “Let’s go.”

Sabrina nodded. The four groups set off in four different directions.

“I wonder why you got paired with me.” Surge mused as he and Yellow walked along. “You got any electric pokemon?”

            “No.”

“Okay, then what do you have?”

            “Um… Raticate… Doduo… Caterpie…”
            “That’s it?!”

            Yellow nodded.

Surge looked stricken. “Well, I hope you have some really good strategy, then, because with that team, it’s going to be awfully hard to win.”

“It’s going to be hard for you to win in any case.” A voice said.

            “Eh?!”

“Magneton, Flash!” Surge said. His floating magnet pokemon nodded and filled the cave with light. There, sitting on a ledge, was a cloaked trainer with an Aerodactyl.

“You must be Lance.” Surge said. “Well, your dragon pokemon will be weak to my electric pokemon!”

The figure smiled. “Are you sure? Aerodactyl, Ancientpower now!”

Aerodactyl laughed eerily and sent a shower of rocks towards the two of them. Yellow quickly released her Doduo.

            “Doduo, Whirlwind them away!”

“Direct, aren’t you. Well, I like that in a trainer. It makes things simpler. Aerodactyl, Hyper Beam!”

Surge and Yellow panicked. Just then, something dived in front of the Hyper Beam and caught it.

Blaine and Bill came running up. “We heard shouts, so we came to investigate.” Blaine said.

            Bill looked nervous. * I’m a researcher, not a trainer! *

            The dust cleared, revealing Mewtwo.

“Mewtwo? Oh well. Then we’d better take this outside!” The figure said. His face was still obscured. He snapped his fingers, and suddenly, the earth rose up, shoving all four trainers into the exterior of the island.

When the dust cleared, they saw the trainer flying above on his Aerodactyl.

All of the assembled people gasped, because it was none other than Red.

            “Red! What are you doing?!”

“Four against one isn’t really fair…” Red said in a singsong voice.

“Red! Snap out of it!” Bill said.

Blaine narrowed his eyes. “Something is wrong…”

“No really.” Surge said sarcastically. “But we can beat him now, right?”

            “Aerodactyl, use Hyper Beam!”

            “Yikes!”

Blaine shook his head. “We’d better talk later. First, we have to faint his pokemon.”

“Red…” Yellow said. * Why are you doing this? What happened to the nice boy who rescued me two years ago? *

“Right!” Surge said. “Magneton, use Sonicboom!”

            “Mewtwo, immobilize him with Disable!”

            Bill and Yellow stayed back.

“Yellow, watch his fighting style closely.” Blaine instructed. “We’ll need to figure out how to beat him.”

Yellow nodded and focused on the battle.

Red smiled. “Oh? I suppose I’ll have to use… Eevee.”

Eevee popped out of her poke ball and smiled.

“Eevee, Flareon now!” He flashed a Fire Stone.

Eevee nodded and morphed into Flareon. She flung a Flamethrower attack at Magneton, making it cry out.

After all, steel was weak to fire.

“So it’s a fire type.” Surge said. “Electabuzz, you’re up! Use Thunderpunch!”

            “Eevee, Espeon now!”

This time, even Blaine couldn’t identify the pokemon Eevee had turned into.

< It’s a psychic type. > Mewtwo said helpfully. He was still trying to hit Red with Disable, but Red was dodging all of them.

            “Espeon, use Shadow Ball!”

            “Shadow Ball?”

A ball of dark energy formed in the Eevee’s mouth and smashed into Mewtwo. Mewtwo doubled over in pain.

            Red smirked.

Bill looked at Yellow nervously. “Are you sure you can beat him?” He whispered softly.

“I think Blaine knows what he’s doing.” Yellow said. * Come on, what’s his strategy? *

“Mewtwo, Barrier!” Mewtwo coated himself and Blaine in barrier, and then he floated up and knocked Red off Aerodactyl’s back.

Red flipped in midair and landed on his feet.

            “Eevee, Umbreon!”
This time, everyone stared at the black pokemon that sat next to Red. Red pointed at Mewtwo. “Faint Attack!”

Mewtwo quickly formed a protective bubble, but Umbreon crashed right through it. Blaine gasped.

            “Mewtwo, Psychic!”

Mewtwo flung an immense amount of psychic waves at Red’s pokemon. But nothing happened.

            “Umbreon, Finish it! Bite!”

            Mewtwo teleported away.

            “Mewtwo, Tornado now!”

Mewtwo nodded and sucked Red, Aerodactyl, and Umbreon all into the giant tornado it had created with its psychic power.

Surge looked concerned. “Is he down now?”

“I think so.” Blaine said. As they watched, the tornado died down and Red and his pokemon crumpled to the floor.

“Mewtwo, Return.” Blaine said, seeing his exhausted pokemon. He slumped over tiredly.

            “We beat him?” Yellow asked.

“Seems like it.” Bill said. “Now we find out what’s wrong with Red.”

            They walked over to him.
