1)
Host
2) Layout 3) Legal stuff 4) Graphic Use 5)Making Graphics Yourself |
OK, so
your starting a web site but you need a
good
host? Well here is my list of "good" & "bad" hosts.
| Homestead: | Good |
| Geocities: | Good |
| AngelFire: | Ok |
| GurlPages: | Bad |
| Xoom(NBC) | Bad |
| Homestead: Homestead use to be free, but noe it costs $30.00 a year. I think that they still have a free version though. If you have the money I recomend you use homestead, especially if you don't know and don't want to learn html. They have a website builder that you can download right onto your computer so you can work offline. |
| Geocities: On Geocities, you make a site using html. But that is Ok, learning html is good for someone who uses a computer. Geocities has great html guides that teach you the basics and more! Geocities if totally free and you can download more than one image at a time. |
| AngelFire: I thought Angelfire was pretty good when I tried it. It is almost like Geocities. They have graphics you can use and they have an html guide also. But, if you go to neopets, you can not use any Angelfire pics. They just won't show up. :( AngeFire is also free. |
| GurlPages: It
doesnt offer any graphics & it doesnt have applet windows. To
me that is harder to use, because you gotta use THERE
layout ideas. |
| Xoom(NBC): They stick a huge banner at the top of your web site, & are very annoying. Also no Applet windows. I always avoid sites made by Xoom because I find it hard to look around the site with the banner getting bigger and bigger everytime I click on a different page. |
I would
like to let eveyone know that this is just out of the
sites
I have been too. This is MY opinion and I hope I
haven't
hurt anyone.
To me
If a layout doesn't seem good, I will 9 out of
10 times
leave. You want your visiters to enjoy an
easy
use travel system. You can do two different
kinds
of layouts
1) Sidebar
Layout: Very helpful, the visiter can see it
quickly
appon arrival, & doesnt have to stress over
looking
for links everywhere.
| 1) Sidebar Layout: Very helpful, the visiter can see it quickly appon arrival, & doesnt have to stress over looking for links everywhere. |
| 2) Bottom Links: I didnt know what to call it. That is how my web site is. I put the links underneath a SHORT introduction and welcome. This is also convenient. The visiter reads the intro and sees the links when they scrole down a little. |
Those
are, to me, the two good layouts.
Here
are some layouts I dislike.
| 1) Intro: Updates: THEN Links: I don't exactly hate it so much because sometimes I will check a site to see if it has been updated and can't tell easily. I suggest making a seperate page for updates. One that is in site next to the other links. But There are a lot of people who REALLY dislike the updates before the links, so it is up to you. |
| 2) Links everywhere: This again doesn't bother me too much. I like to read stories myself. It is just when people make it to where you have to read it to go to where they want to go. If you make one of these it should be short. If it is too long people tend to loose interest. Make it short and simple. and ALWAYS have links in a spot where they are easily spotted so the people who don't like reading the intro's can explore your site easy. Most people will read part of a story, get fusterated and leave thinking about how horrible your site is, even if the rest of your pages are great. |
If your
making a web site based on copy right stuff
(for
ex. Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Hello Kitty,
playstation
games, etc.) you need to put a disclaimer
at the
bottom of the page. A disclaimer looks something
like
this:
"I do
not own or had anything to do with the product. All rights
reserved
to there respected creaters & distributers."
They
are usually tiny little things at the bottom of the
page.
You put that there so you dont get sued by the
company
or any distributer saying your using there
idea
illegally.
I bet
we have all been to a web site with a truck
load
of graphics on the first page anlone. You can tell
right
away when you enter the web site takes a long
time
to load. For you guys that dont know graphics
are like
pictures, banners, buttons, etc. Using them is
alright
but dont abuse them!
You can
stick some graphics on each page, but dont
put to
much. If you do your web site takes longer to
load
& you can lose visiters.
Are you tired of asking webmasters
to make graphics for
you? Do you want to make
your own? Here's how!
You will need:
1) Paint program (usually ALL computers
have it)
2) Image converter (this changes
the image from .bmp in
to .gif or .jpg (.gif & .jpg
are image types that web sites
use)
What do you do?
| Step 1:
Get an image & put it in the paint program. |
| Step 2:
Modify the image, add text, etc. |
| Step 3:
Copy the image, & paste it on the image converter. Save he image there. Make sure you save it either .gif or .jpg. |
Thats it you made yourself a graphic!
