She is a woman with a heart shaped face and sea-blue eyes. Kind, yet firm are two words more often associate with her. Most people in the community know her, since she's involved in a lot of projects and such things. Serge (Father)- He works as a translator of various languages, but mostly of Russian, for he is a Russian immigrant. Serge is strong willed and determined, and he has a kind heart. He's tall about 5'7, and has dark brown, expressive eyes, with dark chocolate colored hair. He's raises his children in loving way- a way that most people wouldn't expect from a man as large as him. Yuri (Brother)- He is the older brother of both Eadlin and Leena, he college student who attends Roanoke College. Eadlin feels close to since they are only 2 years apart. Even when he's away from home they still fight. He's very prone to making assumptions about things that he does. He tends to want to protect his little sister from the world, because he knows how easily things, and dreams can be manipulated for people's cruel ends. He many not always be home but he's always there for his little sister. Leena (Sister)- She is the adopted sister of Eadlin and Yuri, a high school student, in the same grade as Eadlin. She's a blonde haired, blue eyes young woman, with slightly tanned skin, and was adopted into the Jelinek family just a little over four years ago from Russia. She's quiet and aloof from the rest of the family, and seems to be the exact opposite of both Yuri and Eadlin. She tends to enjoy quiet and be introspective about life. Anya (Grandmother) -The person with whom she identifies with among the older set of people in her family. She helped her learn to speak Russian fluently. Her eyes are deep blue-gray and her hair is white with age, she's about 5'1. This woman is old, close to the age of 70, and is well respect by her descendants. Unlike many of the other old people out there in the world, though Anya is quiet energetic and does various activities. Anya has recently come to live with the Jelinek family about the same time as Leena come into the family. She gives advice, most of the time unwanted, and is very a crone is every sense of the words to most outsiders. But to her family she's very loving and warm. Vivian (Witch/Mentor)-The witch who taught Eadlin the basic principles of Wicca and is her confidante most of the time. She's open about her practice of The Craft, or the Ways of Mother Earth, as she calls it. She's very polite and calm, especially when helping Eadlin to talk about things, like Wicca or just about life in General. Gemstone: Emerald, Favorite Gem: Diamond History Born Eadlin Tala Jelinek, in the city of Roanoke two loving if very different parents. Her mother Evelyn, a young American veterinarian who specialized in small animal care, and Serge a Russian immigrant, whom Evelyn met on holiday, after 3 years of dating, and a year of engagement, and a bit of immigration trouble, and some struggling with the blessings of Evelyn's parents over her marrying a `foreigner', the two finally finalized their engagement and Serge officially immigrated to America. With the blessing of both the Russian and American families secured the couple married a little less then six months later. A little less than 2 years later, the first child, Yuri, the only boy of the family was born. Yuri grew up quickly though his pampering and babying was diverted when Eadlin was born. Eadlin was born, not like most American children, in hospitals, but at home. The rather large portion of relatives from both sides of the family decided to attend the home birth. Growing up in a house with an older brother, Eadlin was the constant catalyst for trouble, shouts and wines of `she took it and won't give back' or `It's mine- `, `No! Mine!' where often heard. When not fighting, with Yuri, the little girl was quiet and inquisitive, but this in a household with a young boy, who was often easily frustrated, always made matters worse. One moment the house could be calm and quiet as if no one lived there the next it could sound as if the Hades had opened its gates right in the Jelinek house. With out Serge around since he was being an interpreter and therefore more that 80% of the time out of the country, the family survived mostly by Yuri getting odd jobs and the income created by the veterinary practice of their mother. Eventually life calmed as the children grew and went into school. Serge was outgoing and outspoken, while Eadlin, who had earned the affection nickname, Surina, from her school mates, for they all called her Serena, at first but this alternate spelling came about when she was just about to enter the 5th grade, by this time she had already started writing stories and she had used the name `Surina' with her alternate spelling for a character and she decided to use the name since it stuck so well. During her year of 7th grade, she was introduced to her new sister. Being from Russia, the girl was much quieter and spoke hardly any English but with her grandmother and herself helped Leena was on the way to learning English by the end of the school year. Though Leena, Yuri and Eadlin were almost always apart during tough times they could count one another. As Eadlin and Leena entered the 8th grade, the school bully had taken a rather interesting like to both Eadlin and especially to Leena. He would constantly make fun of Leena for her Russian accent. It took Eadlin and Yuri to make him stop, after rather upsetting events where Leena had come home crying and speaking Russian… Eadlin, Leena walked to school with Yuri walking behind, the bully confronted them, but it was Eadlin who talked him out of hurting them with some reversed physiology. As she progressed through grade school and entered her freshman year of high school, something happened. She announced to her parents that she was no longer going to be Christian. She announced it midway through her freshman year, her parents, both Christians, were not exactly shocked for Eadlin had always had a way with finding interesting facts. They fought a little bit when she announced her choice of religion, Wicca, being that they thought it was not exactly wrong. But, by way of reasoning, information gathering and using the skills she had acquired in her Freshman year, with putting together charts and graphs, she showed them using various books and information on the subjects, which she had been buying over the years when her Yuri, Leena and herself went out shopping as the sometimes did to reconnect with each other. Swaying her parents took allow her to actually practice and learn Witchcraft took a bit more fighting through most of her second year of high school and arguing, after a while even Yuri and Leena decided to help their sister with her battle for religious difference. Eventually with all three children taking up Wicca, and the blessing and support of their Anya who, unbeknownst to them was a practicing Witch, Evelyn and Serge had to give in. Personality Eadlin is composite of different traits. Being mostly on the shy side, when it comes to meeting new people, whether it is cute boys, or just other people, she's a naturally shy. She's your average tomboy in most respects. She enjoys playing around and goofing off, she even a video gamer. During school hours, she's your studious and observant student, very inquisitive and will ask many-even some unorthodox- questions about the subjects. She also seems to have a tendency to shoot off at the mouth sometimes, in defensive of her friends, which tends to get her into trouble, when she's already in it. Eadlin's fiercely loyal to those she considers friends, but most of the time this loyalty and desire to protect often times gets her into more trouble than she can get herself out of. She's very calm most of time, but when she's extremely upset sometimes she speaks in Russian trying to convey words and feelings that just don't sound right English. Eadlin is afraid of heights... at least anything high that doesn't have a solid, firm surface to stand on, like rope bridge, that sways. She also has fear of going under or being under water. Appearance Ebony, black hair, with the texture of silk, frames her small, crème- colored, heart shaped face, which contains her eyes which are emerald green, almost sea-green. Her eyes are almond and set about a slender finger space apart. Her nose is small and slender. She is about 5'0. Her frame is slender but somewhat muscular. Just by looking most would think she's extremely fragile and frail. Her posture is good, and she holds herself with an air of confidence. Above her right wrist is a small scar. Fuku Her top is the traditional Senshi shoulder covering in rather untraditional colors; the main color is silver, while the stripes are turquoise. The front bow is your standard bow, except that in the center is a pentagram, where the large button should be. Her bodysuit isn't traditional, is in two pieces the top, is a simple, white, slightly tight fitting shirt, short sleeved, that stops to reveal her midriff. Her symbol is one that combines both her Senshi's power and her Wicca religion it a pentagram with a circle around it, the circle representing the moon. Her chocker isn't a chocker at all; it's her pentagram necklace. Her skirt is pleated and is silver, the belt around her waist is turquoise and on it holds the 3 phrases of the moon: Waxing Moon, representing the Maiden form of Selene, the Full Moon, representing the Mother, and the Waning moon representing the Crone. The belt itself is loose and allowed to slope downward to the make it look more `traditional'. The back bow is also turquoise, but also the tail ribbons are a bit longer and the bow itself it more like butterfly wings, wide spread. The boots are low-cut calf length boots. They are silver (gray), but are flat on the bottom. They are decorated with buttons shaped like the phases of the moon going on from new to full down the length of the boot. At the top the V shape is color turquoise. Her gloves are white for the most part except for the turquoise color bands on them. On the right wrist is a Pentagram charm bracelet. Transformation To start her transformation, Eadlin removes her pentagram necklace and holding the chain and let it dangle in front of her she says her transformation phrase. "Selene Goddess Power, Make up!" she cries and tosses the pentagram up into the air. The pentagram then becomes suspended in mid-air and becomes a 3 large moons, a waxing moon, full moon, and waning moon. A large pentagram forms on the ground and she's in the center of it. The three moons shimmers and form a single new moon. This single moon then hovers above Eadlin being parallel to the pentagram below it. Ribbons of silver or turquoise depending on which part of her outfit it will become. Her shirt is formed first; a long ribbon of white descends from the dark moon. After the shirt forms, by the ribbon swirling around her waist and conforming to her body and becoming solid, the moons split again. The waxing and waning moons split and go to the right and left, and ribbons of turquoise and white come of both moons to form her gloves and their bands. While this is happening the five points of the pentacle are glowing and the light from the points converge in the center and then a pillar of light emanates from it and forms her skirt, then a signal ribbon of turquoise emanated from the full moon above her and forms the front ribbon and back ribbon. The Pentacle is forms when the pentacle she is standing one shrinks and becomes the centerpiece of her from bow. Her boots are formed when new moon sends up silver and turquoise ribbons to wrap around her feet, then smaller thin silver ribbons become the buttons. Just before the transformation ends her choker, a pentagram necklace, appears at her neck and her charm bracelet appears. The single charm on the bracelet is medium sized. A pentagram with a new moon at the north, a full moon at the south, a crescent in the east and half moon in the west. In the ending of her transformation, the background is one of a Pentacle behind her. Powers Lunar Arrow- raising her right hand and her eyes, skyward, Eadlin concentrates her energy and will it into the shape of a bow, which is silver. She turns the bow over, and pulls a strand of her hair, which shimmers and turns silvery-white, and she strings the bow with it. Then an Owl appears carrying a quiver of arrows, there are anywhere from 6 to 9 arrows in the quiver… depending on how many shots she thinks she needs to hold of the monster. Guardian No guardian. Explanation Selene is the Greek goddess of the moon, there are several version of her parentage one is that she is the daughter of Titans (Theia and Hyperion) making her sister to Eros (Dawn) and Helios (Sun). She's also seems to be a goddess with a natural tendency to fall in love and want to keep it, as she did in a myth about her falling in love with a mortal man named Endymion, I picked the goddess because it felt interesting. She's not a goddess who goes after men, but rather one represents life and abundance since the moon controls they mysterious, which was one of the reasons I chose to make my character a Witch (Wicca) because the Craft seems to associate strongly with the moon. Writing Sample In a single circle of 20 stood the white robbed initiate. Eadlin, had been waiting this day for years, she had practiced and learned all that she could. She was a part of a Coven, a Circle of witches, of those who practiced Wicca. Eadlin smiled as the circle formed a line with her in the center and headed to the spot they set aside rather some distance away from busy city of Roanoke and its busy populace. The various witches, both male and female, though most female climbed into cars, trucks and vans. "Ready, Initiate?" the voice of her mentor, her teacher Vivian asked. In the back seat both Yuri and Leena sat. "Veady?" Leena asked. Eadlin grinned weakly. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be." She sat with hands folded as the car drove along. As the car stopped, all the teens looked up, "Goddess help me to do this properly." Eadlin prayed. She needed all her strength to go through with this. All her training and teaching had come down to this. Eadlin and Vivian were the first to leave the car, escorting her pupil Vivian approved her the girl's solemnity. A small fire had been started in the designated area, with the sacred plants adorning the altar to the Goddess. Bravely, solemnly Eadlin strode toward the altar. She noted the ring, the circle, which had formed around the altar and her. She raised her hands skyward and began her invocation and initiation to the Great Mother. She implored and beseeched the Great Mother, the life source of all things to make her will know to her. The circle had started to chant; five bells each one a different size had started to ring. The circle had broken apart now. An older witch, the High Priestess herself, started to draw a pentagram around Eadlin, the start of the circle of power, which would help her through this ordeal of sorts. The High Priest mean while used the bell ringers as markers for the 5 points of the larger. As Eadlin prayed the bells continued to ring, creating a symphony of sound and prayer. The entire circle watched… in awe and wonders, most had never seen an initiation of this magnitude that called for two pentacles and 5 bells. Eadlin's voice was raised in prayer till late into the night. The bonfire had been lit. "Goddess, Creator, Mother of all… who gives light and life to this world…." She had started her conclusion. "I ask you to protect me and those whom I hold dear…" she sank to the ground, the full moon directly above, with its warm light shinning down on the young woman was the final confirmation… it was done.
