Gemstone: peridot History Born and raised at Oxford University, every experience of Alden's life has revolved around the prestigious school. His parents, Alfred and Susan, met at Oxford when they began their professorships, Alfred in chemistry and Susan in anthropology. As a child, Alden spent far too much time immersed in the world of Oxford professors, and that is where his problems began. Alden learned to read, write, count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide at a young age. He mimicked the professors around him, picking up long words and fragments of advanced concepts in the process. And then he started school. When Alden entered school, he quickly decided that the children around him had nothing to offer in terms of meaningful conversation or social interaction, so dismissed them as inferior to himself. He was downright nasty to the poor tykes who had trouble learning to read and count and add and subtract. Teachers were a bit mystified and quite annoyed by this bright child who simply refused to get along with his peers. Alden did every possible stunt he could come up with to get his teachers to ignore the other kids in favor of him. Some teachers did, impressed by his brightness, but quickly found that he only used his position with the teacher to lord it over his classmates. If they gave him harder work, thinking the problem was his being bored by the assigned level of classwork, he lorded it over the other children even more, calling them stupid ignoramuses. His parents were a bit mystified as well. They decided with Alden's teachers that it might be best to move him up a grade. Moving up a grade was probably the worst thing they could have done in retrospect. The coursework wasn't all that harder, but when Alden tried to assert his superiority over the older children, they beat him up. Suddenly, not only was Alden's view that other children were stupid beasts reinforced, he learned that they all hated him and he hated them, too. He was just too smart to say anything about it ever again. Alden withdrew socially from all his so-called peers and started hanging around Oxford even more. In junior school, Alden started listening in on professors classes. Not every professor was open to the idea of having a young child in their classroom (especially one not actually paying to attend), but those who did found Alden to be quiet and well-behaved and actually interested in the subject at hand, even though he often did not understand the material. Alden continued with this double life up through secondary school, excelling at his schoolwork but ignoring the social aspects of that life, choosing instead to socialize with college students and professors in the math and science departments. It wasn't like the kids at his school didn't try to talk to him or include him, he just ignored them and eventually they gave up and settled instead for taunting and jeering. (Though it was never published in the year book, Alden was voted Most Likely to Have a Stick Up His Ass.) Eventually it was time for Alden to apply to colleges. He was the top student in his class, had two parents on the Oxford faculty, was known to most of the faculty (having sat in on as many of their classes as possible), so was basically a shoo-in. He entered Oxford and proceeded to continue with his academic career as if he had always been there. Which, of course, he had. And that brings us to the present. Alden has completed a number of his requirements and is almost ready to pick a major. He's doing extraordinarily well in his courses. He's thinking of physics, biology, or chemistry. Personality How ironic that the angel of unity would be the most abrasive and divisive member of the Angelus team. Alden is, quite simply, an ass. A smart one, but an ass nonetheless. He's stubborn, elitist, rude (by choice), and impatient. He's never met you, but chances are he doesn't like you on principle alone. See, when he was younger, Alden decided that 99.9% of the population was too idiotic to be bothered with, and that of the remaining 1%, most went to Oxford and studied the sciences. Anyone not proficient in his or her science classes or, God forbid, not attending Oxford, is clearly inferior and deserving of much scorn. Sucks to be you, don't it? When it comes to book smarts, Alden is unparalleled. He has a photographic memory, and he can still recite passages from books he read when he was young. Not only that, but he combines this powerful memory with a strong work ethic. Piecing bits of information together isn't as easy as collecting it, so Alden works hard at putting everything together into a presentable package, and he always goes the extra mile. If a reading is assigned from a text, he'll read the whole book, and he'll go out of his way to find books on related subjects. And when it comes time to write a paper or put together a project, he does so quickly and effectively, having memorized a handful of excellent organizational models to fit any assignment which he might come across. Alden's stubbornness and work ethic stem from his natural competitiveness. Having been raised on and around the Oxford campus, he was exposed to some of the brightest minds England has to offer, and compared himself to them. This developed in him a need to be the best of the best, and it shows. Naturally, if this were a D&D game, Alden's INT would be 20, but his WIS would only be 13. All the book smarts in the world don't make one wise. Wisdom comes from observational learning, and Alden's specialty is facts, figures, and formulas, not quality observation. He's the kind of person who can't see the woods for the trees. If he wanted to, Alden could probably just be nice to people, but after having them beat him up in elementary school, he almost feels he has a duty to get back at outsiders with his scathing wit and relentless rudeness. He's brusque when speaking to "outsiders," particularly those in servile jobs, like waiters and taxi drivers. Janitors, chimney sweeps, and street cleaners? They don't even exist. To Alden, you either belong to Oxford's science department or you're a gnat. And it takes a lot to change a view like that. If you happen to be one of the lucky insiders, you probably think Alden seems distant but cool. He certainly cultivates a fine image for himself within the Oxford community. He's a smart dresser, attends social events such as recitals and art shows, and can be charming and intelligent. He never really makes friends with anyone, though, thus the distance. He has a number of acquaintances, but no close chums. The closest he comes are some of the übernerds in the science department. He's a little envious of them, to say the truth. While he's certainly very bright himself, the übernerds have a strain of genius he lacks. That strain of genius is the only thing capable of humbling Alden at this point. Since I'm sure you were waiting to hear about, let's go into Alden's romantic life. He doesn't fall often or easily, but when he falls, he falls hard. He's had two rather serious relationships in the past, neither of which ended very well. (Alden's fault on both counts.) Girls may admire Alden for being smart, charming, and good-looking, but considering his charm is mostly faked and he has very little practical knowledge about relationships, most romances with him are doomed to fail. He doesn't pick up on any cues, subtle or not, and doesn't see any reason why he should inconvenience himself for a girl. Alden's not a very easy person to live with and he'll often put his studies ahead of himself and any relationship he may have. After the termination of such a relationship, Alden will often brood and sulk for a while, engulfing himself completely in his schoolwork and ignoring whatever social life he has. This generally abates after a few weeks, or whenever one of his professors notices his brooding and invites him to a recital. Alden isn't without other strengths. Besides his intelligence, he inherited his father's scientific curiosity and his mother's cooking. He's not prone to fits of violence or crying, and while he'll complain if things aren't going his way, he doesn't whine. He's strict to others, but hold himself to those same standards. If you enjoy sarcasm, you'll just love his cruel sense of humor. And even though he's not exactly friendly in everyday situations, he keeps his cool remarkably well. In the rare event that Alden does get angry, he usually does it with good reason, at least from his point of view. Sometimes dealing with people is just so aggravating for him that he'll explode on them, ranting and waving his arms. It's pretty funny if you're not the target. One of his particular hates is when people make the same stupid mistakes over and over again, or when they try to tell him what to do. Though he can be a bit scary when he's angry, Alden's really quite harmless, as he abhors violence. Violence would put him on the same level as those common idiots he despises so much. When it comes to senshi matters, Alden refuses to believe that anyone beside himself could be capable of leading. To his credit, his high intelligence means he usually makes good decisions or plans, but he'll often refuse to accept anything other than his own way or idea. Alden hasn't yet learned that successful leadership occurs when the leader takes the time to get everyone's input. Someday, when he realizes that non-Oxford people aren't all complete idiots, he might be able to learn the concepts behind good leadership. It will just take some patience, and in the meantime don't expect him to start off accepting any position other than leader. His pride won't let him take orders from outsiders, yet. Worth noting is Alden's least favorite subject, ethics. Ethics concerns itself too much with right and wrong for him to enjoy it, because Alden doesn't accept most ethical or moral points of view. He doesn't want to hear about the rights of animals, small children, or the retarded and elderly. He doesn't even want to hear about the rights of fully-grown, average humans. He doesn't care about the ethics of any situation. He's almost a complete atheist (a little bit of agnosticism still creeps in now and then) and doesn 't recognize anything sacred about any life except his own, and then it's only because he has a vested interest in his own existence. Given his atheism and amoral views, you can just imagine how he feels about being an Angelus senshi. Are the guardians ever in for a surprise when they get their hands on him... Appearance Alden is 5'9" and 150 lbs. with dark green hair and golden hazel eyes. His hair is short, his bangs ending above his eyebrows, and parted on the left. His round face is smooth with a trace of frown lines and his eyes are a little smaller than average, but very intense. lden always gives the impression of being someone who takes no nonsense. His posture is good; he always sits up straight and stares people right in the eye. As far as clothing goes, Alden wears khakis and t-shirts under casual dress shirts, or short sleeved button-up shirts over turtlenecks. He likes to give the impression of someone who is responsible, so he always takes care to keep himself nice and tidy. He doesn't have any piercings, tattoos, or scars, and has very little desire to get any. Despite being considered generally handsome, he's fairly nondescript, even boring.

Fuku

To begin with, Omniel Knight wears a tight, sleeveless black turtleneck and
black pants. Over this he wears a green jacket. The jacket is short,
extending to about the ribcage, and sleeveless. It doesn't meet in the
front, instead secured by two golden disks and a green strap with gold
edges. The left one can be unbuttoned to remove the jacket. The collar of
the jacket is broad and golden in color. It has a split in the back with a
golden disk. On his arms, Omniel has green cloth extending from just below
the shoulder to the middle finger of his hand. The cloth is secured at the
top by a golden armband.

Over his pants he has a sort of split skirt, the top of which serves as a
belt. The skirt is green in color with a golden, square buckle in the front.
It is divided into three pieces by three splits extending to nearly the top
of the skirt: two in the front and one in the back, all with golden disks at
their apex. Last but not least, he wears lightweight green boots with black
toes and heels. At the top are three strips of green cloth outlined in gold
folding over from the inside of the boot and each secured in place by a
small golden disk.

Omniel wields a staff as tall as himself topped by two intertwined golden
snakes with their mouths open. Think caduceus.

Transformation

Alden begins by shouting "Omniel Angelus Power, Ascension!" Gold ribbons
suddenly swirl out from his palms, engulfing his body and forming his
turtleneck and pants, then his jacket, boots, and skirt, and finally the
golden bands and circles across his costume. He reaches both of his hands
into the air, palms upturned, and the ribbons stretch into the form of his
staff. He closes his hands on it and brings the end of the staff into the
ground. The golden ribbons swirl up from the bottom like snakes, forming the
golden snakes of the staff. Omniel opens his eyes and glares menacingly at
his enemies. Voila! All done.

Powers

"Mass Intellect Network!"

As you probably know, intelligence or intellect can refer to a mass grouping
of minds united. Omniel's power revolves around this concept. He stretches
his arms out in front of him, hands gripping his staff horizontally, closes
his eyes, tilts his head down slightly, and says "Mass Intellect Network!"
He then opens his eyes and crackling green energy leaps into the eyes of any
other friendly senshi present within about 20 feet. They can now hear each
other's thoughts. This lasts for about ten minutes and over a maximum
distance of half a kilometer. Generally, this thought speak works with a
little concentration on what needs to be communicated, whether in the form
of a sentence or picture or smell or sound, etc. So random background
thought noise isn't transmitted, just things that a person wants to. All
thoughts are transmitted to everyone currently in the mental network and
cannot be censored. (So if Tuxedo Chicken were looking at Sailor Lug Nut
[purely hypothetical] and thought to her, "Hey, you're looking hot,"
everyone currently in the network would hear it. And probably think Tuxedo
Chicken were talking to them. Which could be a real problem. Another problem
might be if Omniel were to warn Sailor Angelfoodcake with "Watch out!" and
then everyone turned around. Using the network requires a bit of training in
that people have to remember to use names.) The only thing that can cause
the network to stop working besides its normal fading out is Omniel being
knocked unconscious. And another pitfall is that a strong, uncontrolled
emotion can engulf the network, so if Sailor Staircase were to get badly
hurt everyone would feel some of her pain. Omniel can use the network once
every six to eight hours.

"Together in Unity!"

This requires a little set up. Omniel can unite the powers of two other
senshi to create a more powerful effect. All it requires is for Omniel to
stand in front of the two senshi. He points his staff in the direction of
the intended target and shouts "Together in Unity!" His two allies must then
attack him with their powers at the same time. Their powers are channeled
through his staff to the target. The effects of this will differ depending
on which two senshi are attacking Omniel, and it can be used for more than
just attacking. You could also combine two beneficial powers to target an
ally.

Guardian
Nope.

Research

From Angel of Day ( ):

Omniel This being of light grants to mortals the ability to experience a
feeling of oneness with all life. We pray to Omniel to lift the veil of
illusion that keeps us separate from other living beings. When this veil
lifts we find that the concept of doing to others as we would do to
ourselves becomes real, for we truly are all one.

From http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/9283/angellore.html :

Omniel
Angel of Oneness
Considered to be an archangel by some, Omniel grants mortals the ability to
experience a feeling of oneness with all life. This unifying angel links us
with all living things, allowing us to communicate easily with all of nature
and the heavenly realm.
