Comments: This is an other great kit from Kotobukiya. The position is really dynamic and the skirt movement is just amazing. In a word, the sculptor is talented and and I think he made a wise choice using Burning Mandalas Attack as model (my favorite Mars' attack). I just don't like the base, I will find a alternative way for it. Since the kit is rather simple, I decided to paint it in an artistic way. It's why I overdone the shading. I think it was  worth the effort and bring out her burning personality. I also draw the Mandala kanji on the paper seals, even if it was not shown on any pictures I've seen of this GK. To get the violet reflect on her hair, I decided to use Ecoline Ink, but the result was not visible enough and it was dangerous to manipulate the figure. I decided to use a Green Staedler Lumicolor Permanent Pen to get it. It worked very well and it won't risk to destroy the paint job. Remember: Flat Black + Green Lumicolor = Satin-like black with strong violet reflect (looks like if I used Pearl paint without all the trouble).

I purchased mine from Hobbyfan.com. The kit is good, with some cast flashes to remove. However, one of Mars' shoes was very poorly casted. Since this time, I stay a little bit away from Hobbyfan stuff, but their kit are still very good. It cost me 42.00 $ USD.

Comments from peers on E2046 Forum: Matrix The lightning on the pics is a bit to harsh it kills the skin tones.
But I can see its again a smooth careful worked out paint job.
The eyes looks very expressive, and the nive shading of the red is clearly to see.
Some big balance challenge also
baxojayz Very prolific Matt.

Nicely done. You may not have liked doing the flames, but they turned out well. You should be proud. How did you do it?

tfcreate Nice..... The flames are beautifully done. Skin tones are overall composition is excellent. I especially like the shading on the bow, alot of model makers miss that.

As to the photography, this is a hazard of doing close-up/macro photography. There just is no way to achieve good ballenced lighting with a single light source.

2 of these will fill in the exposure areas perfectly. Place them at 30 degree angles to the subject. If you find them over-exposing the subject, either speed up the shutter, or place a piece of bubble wrap over the strobe to diffuse the light.

Excellent work... (Mars is a Favourite!!!! )

vellj001 I agree on the photo comments but this is the best of the three you have posted recently. Really a great work especially on the red skirt very good tones.

Try to spot a place where there is natural light only but not direct sunlight as in the photos. It is hard to find one I looked around my house taking sample photos for an entire day to find one. I am sure your photos will improve more and there will be no need for artificial lighting.
Aglaranna I like this one, the overdone shading looks really great !
And indeed the flames look really good.
Ming u must share your hand shading techniques with me. i'm going to throw my compressor away now.
ddstar You have done a great job with this. I agree with some of the others about the flames, they look most awesome, even if you didn't like it. I know that feeling though when trying to achieve something and it doesn't go as planned. The skirt shading is great. Heck it is all great. I think however I wouldn't have left the hair so glossy. Yes the pics could be better but we all know what a pain it can be. I am still stuggling with some on a model I want posted. Keep up the good job.
keiichi  Mama mia! My eyes! Who switched on them floodlights! (JK)

Another nice piece of work. You do ALL your models by hand brushing?? Btw, that small tuft of flame looks great.
smoon I like the colors, specially the hair some special mix? the flames look so real, you should take better photos to admire her
This figure is so great! and you made her so expresive!
u2beal999 She's wonderful! Spurs me to get started on my Jupiter. I think you did a wonderful job on her flaming mandalas.

How did you paint the kanji, I wonder? I have to first paint it and then take a long time repairing the parts I messed up on to get it to look the way I want.
