The Child by the Window

No one seems to notice
The child by the window
Or the way she sits and stares
At the stars at midnight
She wishes to be one of them
Shining proud and bright
To never be alone
The stars at midnight seem
But this child realizes
Her dream is but a dream

No one seems to notice
The child by the window
Or how her countenance of joy
Is a mask to hide her fears
Behind all those smiles and laughter
Hides the truth of unshed tears
Maybe just for her
There's someone waiting out there
Someone who will understand
The secrets she wants to share

No one seems to notice
The child by the window
Or how her memories
Have made the tears go dry
Waiting for that certain someone
To be there while she cries
The only thing that her heart needs
Is someone to go beyond the mask
Someone to hold her hand and promise
They will take up the task
Of locking away her loneliness
Forgotten in the past
To help her join the midnight stars
And free this child at last
