| Where Were You, God? Recent news makes me wonder Why have you abandoned us? Where is your benevolence? You've forsaken us and stranded us. Where were you, God, during The "witch" hunts and the Holocaust All those times in history The list, I could exhaust . . . Mercy and forgivness Are ideals long forgotten Shadowed by the shortcomings Of a society, bleak and rotten Why did you leave us, God When over twenty students died Young blood shed and lives destroyed In the event of Columbine Your forgotten promises of Peace and above all, hope Did nothing for the searing wounds Of victims unable to cope Were we not your Chosen ones? Those you promised to protect Where we not your dearest Children? Unyielding love we did expect Why were you not with us, God Through the pain so often our days? You left us in our weakest hours And yet you still expect the praise I once believed your empty vows But my faith has now resigned Through tragedies and massacres Your left your beloved ones behind.
