Hatori is the dragon of the zodiac. Well rather, the seahorse*.Hatori tends to be silent and seem to be cold. He's far from it. He had a girlfriend once. Her name was Kana Souma. A distant relative in the family he had never seen until she came to intern for him.  She told him a riddle." What does it become when snow melts?" He replied, "Water, of course." She said, "Bzzt, Nope, it becomes spring." From that instant, he was struck. They dated and fell in love. But, the dream of living the rest of his life with Kana ended when Akito did his 'flip-out' thing and said no to the engagement. In the process, breaking a vase, where a shard flew into Hatori's eye. Kana fell deep into depression from not being able to protect Hatori from Akito's wrath. Eventually, Hatori was convinced that erasing Kana's memories of him would be the only way she could get better. In the end, Kana apologized to him, for not being able to protect, when Hatori felt it was he who should've protected her. Hatori respects Tohru, after answering the snow riddle correctly. He looks after and protects the rest of the Jyuunishi, especially Momiji. He, Shigure and Ayame grew up together and are the best of friends. In the manga, it seems as thought Shigure and Hatori are secretly plotting something. It's kinda eerie.

*Hatori is the seahorse because in Japan, by legend, they're supposed to be today's versions/decendents of water dragons.
