Chapter 4: The Adventure Begins

“Honey,  I’m home,” said Henry, “Ack!  Who are these guests?”
“Sweetheart, they have come to see you,” said Gertrude.
“Oh, they seek my knowledge.  Well, what do you want to know?” asked Henry.
“Lord Xavier called us the Nightmare Chasers.  Do you know anything about us,”
asked Gavin.
“Wwwhat did you say?!  You are the legendary Nightmare Chasers?” exclaimed
Gertrude and Henry.
 “Just Nightmare Chasers,” said Chloe.
“Oh sorry for that.  I was just surprised about the Nightmare Chasers being in my
house, again,” said Henry.
“I suppose you want to know all about the Nightmare Chasers, huh?” asked
Henry.
“Okay here goes, the Nightmare Chasers are a group of kids who come to Star
Street when we have major problems,” said Henry.
“You mean like that so called HER,” said Caitlin.
“Yes, and her name would be Wilhelmina Bernadette Xantippe Theodosia Xylonia
Gwendolyn Zorana,” Henry said breathlessly.
“Oh, that’s why you call her HER,” said Marlene.
“Also you boys and girls each have your own symbols and gem stone rings,” said
Henry.
“I hope mine is in a light pink.  It would look so cute!” exclaimed Kara.
“Anyway back to what I was saying.  Your mission is to find HER and defeat her,”
Henry said.
“With what?  Our bare hands?” asked Mackenzie.

“No, with these rings.  Each has a special power to defeat HER,” said Henry.
“Darn!  I got purple.  Anyone want to trade?” asked Kara.
“No!  You mustn’t trade.  No one else can activate the ones you have.  There are
seven symbols, Marlene’s is love which is the color red, Gavin’s is peace which is green,
Caitlin’s is beauty which is pink, Neil’s is friendship which is blue, Chloe’s is happiness
which is yellow, Kara’s is harmony which is purple, and Mackenzie’s is courage which is
orange,” Henry said.
“How do you know all this?” Gavin asked.
“This happened to the children before you and the children before them and so
on,” Henry replied, “I helped them years ago too.”
“We forgot to tell you two things.  Sly is being held prisoner at Lord Xavier’s
castle and Lord Xavier takes orders from HER,” said Kara.
“Oh dear! We are now under the orders of HER,” Henry exclaimed.
“Not if we can help it!  Right guys?” said Mackenzie.
 “Right!” the children said simultaneously.
“One more thing.  You won’t turn us in right?” asked Gavin.
“Turn you in for what?” asked Henry.
“We will tell you,” said Gavin.
“We were imprisoned by Lord Xavier,” said Marlene.
“While Lord Xavier was under control of HER,” Chloe said.
“We really didn’t do anything,” said Caitlin.
“Oh, I see! She wants you out of the way so she can take over Star Street.  I
believe you that you didn’t do anything, and I won’t turn you in,” Henry said.
“All right!  Thank you so much,” said Mackenzie.
“What do we do now?” asked Kara.
“You all should spend the night.  Its getting late.  I’ll tell you your quest
tomorrow,” Henry said.
It wasn’t long before the sun came up the very next day.  Mrs. Mouse was in the
kitchen fixing up everything they had for breakfast.  Neil woke up first this time.
“Good morning sleepy head,” said Gertrude, “Are you feeling better this
morning?”
“Yes, I feel tons better!” Neil exclaimed.
 “That’s wonderful,” Gertrude said.
“What’s wonderful?” asked Henry with a yawn.
“Neil is feeling better.” said Gertrude.
“Glad to hear you are well,” said Henry.
“We better wake everyone up breakfast is almost ready,” Gertrude announced.
“All right.  EVERYONE GET UP! BREAKFAST IS ALMOST READY,”
shouted Neil.
“You don’t have to be so loud!” said Caitlin, “Wait a minute did Neil say that?”
“Yes I did.  I’m feeling much better now,” Neil said.
“Really? I’m so happy you’re well,” said Marlene.
“So, what are we having? Milk and cheese?” Gavin asked.
“Gavin! Don’t be so rude!” exclaimed Kara.
“Sorry.  Really what are we having?” asked Gavin.
“Let me see we are having eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, watermelon, ham, pasta,
and my specialty turkey,” said Gertrude.
“Oh.  I’m so sorry! It sounds great,” Gavin apologized.
Everyone sat down at the table.  Gavin thought, “What if there’s not enough.” But
there was more than enough for everyone.  Just then Henry started talking.
“Your quest is to cross over Diamond Mountain to get to HER,” said Henry in
between bites.
 “Where’s that?” asked Mackenzie.
“It is about a two to three day trip on foot.  It’s one hundred miles past Lord
Xavier’s castle,” Henry said, “When you arrive at the top you will see a fairy by the name
of Aurora and she will instruct you on what you should do next.”
“When should we leave?” questioned Kara.
“The best time to leave would be about now because you should get there as fast
as you can,” Henry replied, “Oh, I almost forgot to tell you to be careful.  There are three
evil dragons that will try to stop you.  They guard the castle of HER.”
“Here,” Gertrude said handing Neil a back pack, “ take the rest of the leftovers
with you.”
“Wait!  Shouldn’t we rescue Sly so he can take us there faster?” asked Kara as
Henry was shoving her out the door, “ and how do we use our gem stone rings?”
“Aurora will instruct you on your way.  Now get going!” Henry answered as he
slammed the door shut.
“It would take up too much of are time to try to help Sly.  Besides its too late,”
Chloe replied.
“It’s never too late to rescue him anyway! We can figure out a way to unbrainwash
him,” suggested Kara.
“Kara . . . let’s just keep going,” said Neil.
