Chapter 2: The Great Escape

“All right we now have to go to the castle,” said Sly.
“He said the Nightmare Chasers.  We’re not the Nightmare Chasers, are we?”
asked Gavin.
“Well, we have to go to the castle.  He’ll explain,” said Sly.
They walked down the path to the castle when they came upon a poor old goat.
“Money!  Please give me money,” he begged.
“Pay no attention to him.  Just walk by quickly,” whispered Sly.
“Don’t you think we should help him Sly, or are you just a big meanie!” exclaimed
Kara.
“Kara, you don’t understand.  He’s not really poor.  He just wants you to come
close so he can cause trouble.  There are a lot of criminals here,” Sly answered.
“How come there are so many criminals?” asked Mackenzie.
“Please save your questions for Lord Xavier,” Sly told them.
They soon arrived at the castle.  Sly was looking for the castle map, but failed to
find it.
“I just can’t find my map anywhere,” Sly said, “We’ll have to do some exploring.”
“Can’t you remember where anything is?” asked Chloe.
“I’ll do my very best to find the throne room,” replied Sly, “I know!  I’ll use my
nose.”
Sly sniffed for about an hour, but didn’t come close.  An announcement was now
coming on the intercom, “Where are you Sly?  You don’t have all day to get to my
throne,” said Lord Xavier.
Sly was by an answering button.  He pushed it and said, “Sorry your majesty.  I
lost the map and can’t find your throne.  My response button number is six.”
“Six? I hate to tell you this, but you’re one room away, Sly,” said Lord Xavier.
The eight of them went into the room next door and found Lord Xavier at his
throne.  Sly and the others bowed before him.
“So, Sly are they the Nightmare Chasers?” asked Lord Xavier.
 “Yes, your majesty,” Sly replied.
The kids looked at each other puzzled.  None of them had a clue about what the
Nightmare Chasers do or why they were chosen.
“Guards handcuff these Nightmare Chasers, and the fox,” said Lord Xavier.
“What?  What are you doing Lord Xavier?!  Have you gone mad?!” exclaimed Sly.
“You better not fight it you won’t get loose,” cackled Lord Xavier, “Take Sly to
my brainwashing fountain and take the so-called Nightmare Chasers to the dungeon.”
“Yes, Lord Xavier,” said the guards.
“Please set us loose we don’t even know what we did.  Until a short time ago we
didn’t even know we were the Nightmare Chasers so, please let us go,” Chloe said.
“Sorry, but I have orders to do this,” said Lord Xavier.
 “From who?!” asked Marlene.
“I can’t tell I’ll get in trouble with her,” Lord Xavier said.
“Is it your mom?” giggled Gavin.
“You think your a comedian huh?  Maybe you should entertain HER,” said Lord
Xavier, “Now take them away.”

Later when they reached the dungeon the were all so confused.  Gavin thought,
“What are we doing in here?” Caitlin thought, “Where are we anyway?” “That Xavier guy
is kind of cute too bad he’s evil,” Chloe thought. Neil thought, “Where’s the bathroom in
this place? Oh, no there isn’t one!” Mackenzie thought, “What are they going to do to
us?” Kara thought, “I’m
hungry and scared and I want to go home.” Marlene thought,
“What are they going to do to Sly?  What came over Lord Xavier, and who is HER?”
Neil laid down and said he felt very sick.  Kara started crying and pouting saying,
“I want to go home!  I never wanted to leave but I thought that if everyone else was going
I should go too.”
“Please Kara stop crying Neil is sick and needs his rest,” said Marlene calmly.
“How did we get in this mess we didn’t do ANYTHING!” screamed Gavin.
 “SHHHHH!” said everyone to Gavin.
“Anyway how are we going to get out of here?” asked Gavin.
“I don’t know Gavin,” said Marlene.
A few hours later they were brought food.  If you call stale bread and day old
water food.  They quickly ate and soon after that they went to bed.
The next morning Chloe woke up first and saw Lord Xavier looking at her.  She
also noticed she was sitting on a comfortable bed with silk sheets and a warm blanket.
The room looked pleasant too it was a nice pink room with pictures of flowers
everywhere.
 “Yes?” she said.
“I was just wondering when you would wake up,” he said.
 “Just me?” asked Chloe.
“Yes, that would be correct,” he said.
“Why me? do you like me or something,” she said happily.
“You are quite right,” he said, “Do you know what today is?”
 “Friday?” she answered.
“Nope. Our wedding,” said Lord Xavier.
“Really?!” said Chloe excitedly, “Wait a minute why do you want to marry me?”
“One. I love you and two I gave you a beautiful ring,” he said.
Chloe woke up for real this time. It was only a dream. Caitlin then woke up.
“Hey, Chloe bad dream?” asked Caitlin.
“Well, kind of.  Kind of not,” Chloe said.
“Well, don’t worry the Nightmare Chasers will help you,” said Caitlin with a
giggle.
“Don’t remind me that we’re stuck in here,” said Chloe.
 “Sorry,” said Caitlin.
“Don’t be its not your fault its the so called HER’S fault,” said Chloe.
“Actually its more of Xavier’s fault,” Caitlin said.
“ITS NOT HIS FAULT!” exclaimed Chloe.
Chloe woke everyone up.  They were all grumpy at her for waking them up.
“The way you acted it sounds like you have feelings for this Xavier guy,” Caitlin
said.
 “I do not!” yelled Chloe.
“Don’t have what? What are you guys talking about? And why are you so loud?”
asked Mackenzie as he yawned.
“What we were talking about wasn’t important,” said Chloe.
“Now that everyone’s awake we should make a plan to bust out of here,” said
Gavin.
“Hey, I just noticed something. There’s a window in here.
We could bust it open and get out,” said Marlene.
“Wait a minute what about Sly?” asked Neil with a cough.
“Neil, don’t worry about the plan.  Just get some sleep,” said Caitlin.
“Neil brought up a good point.  We have to get Sly out too,” said Gavin.
“It might be too late.  They were taking him to the brain washing fountain
remember,” Marlene said.
“No! What are they going to do to Sly?” Kara sobbed.
“I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!  I’m busting this window and getting out of
here!  Who’s with me?” exclaimed Mackenzie.
“I am!” said Kara, “What about Sly?”
“We can come back and get him later,” Mackenzie said.
“What about Neil?  He’s still sick,” asked Marlene.
“Where are we going to go?” asked Caitlin.
“Yeah, wherever we go they are going to know we broke out of here,” Chloe
stated.
“This window looks very hard to break,” Gavin said.
“Well, I don’t the answers exactly, but we can go see the wise old mouse, Henry
or whatever,” said Mackenzie.
“Wait, you have to think of what’s going to happen once we leave.  What about
Neil? He is too unstable to walk,” asked Gavin.
“Maybe someone could carry him,” Mackenzie suggested.
“I could carry him, but not for a long period of time,” said Gavin.
 CRACK!  The window glass shattered.
“OW! My fist hurts,” exclaimed Mackenzie.
“That’s because you broke the glass, duh,” said Marlene.
“It’s a good thing you pay a lot of attention to health class so that you can help
him,” said Caitlin.
“Well, health is my favorite subject,” said Marlene.
“The only thing to do now is leave before the guards see the mess,” said Gavin.
Gavin picked up Neil and started to carry him on his back through the window
first.  Caitlin went through next.  Then Chloe, Kara, Mackenzie, and Marlene.
