1. What is the purpose of the Senshi Wars Player Database?
The SWPD was started by yours truly on October 12, 1999 to help spread the Senshi Wars internet game. It initially, and still is, my attempt to find at least 25 players. I'd also like for someone to possibly make some improvements to the game (such as making a command so that it returned to the "pregame room" after leaving) and a way to rank players. I've been trying to find the sourcecode, and I hope that if the game designer ever sees this, please contact me! So if anyone is good in C (or C++?) and is willing to fool around with the innards of the program, eternal gratitude would rain from the skies!
2. What is Senshi Wars?
It's a free, multiplayer turn-based game that can be played over the internet or on a network. I'd suggest you read the readme file that comes with the game for more details, but the next question covers some of the stuff.
3. Sounds fun! How do I play?
First of all, you need to know a few people to play with. Right now, the best way to do this is to go on AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) or ICQ and talk around, or schedule a time with your school buddies. The easiest way to connect to other players is using the TCP/IP option, where one player is host, and the other players join his/her session. The host will need to give the others his/her IP address to the players, which can be found by running winipcfg in the Run command of the Windows Start Menu. Note that your IP address usually changes every time you log on to the net, so check it right before you play.
Once in the session, there will be a "pregame room" where players choose their characters and the host selects a map. The host also selects whether the game will be in teams or in Free-For-All (FFA) mode.
Once in, the game runs itself. Your character starts out at the maximum 100 health points (HP). If she runs out, she's dead and out of the game. Each character has her advantages and weaknesses, reflected in the power of her attacks, her power to resist damage from other attacks, the number of spaces she can move, and the number of turns she gets compared to other characters. Each move is composed of a move and an attack. If no move is made, rest will be an option, where HP can be gained.
The commands are listed in the readme.
4. But where can I get it?
Right here.
5. Why should I join the List?
Oh, come on, you don't trust me? Well, I don't take anybody's name (See, I'm a nice guy ^_^). I'm trusting that for now, everyone's being good girls and boys, waiting for that special day when the Skittles really pop out of the rainbow. But seriously, I'd really like to know exactly how many people are interested in the game so we can do some stuff. Besides, it's a great place to find other players. If you're afraid of joining by yourself, just remember that there was once a time when one name was there (Pay very close attention to whose name is at the top of the list.).
And again, if anyone is really good in C and might be able to help me with improvements on the game, let me know. I'm in the process of tracking down the sourcecode...
6. Exactly who's running this circus? Trying to run it? Uh, well, I (Anchorhead) am the founder and/or Grand Poobah, sorta. Leuqarte would probably be the leader in any technological programming undertaking our group would go through.
