U.S.A.. Shazam is Hull #13 out of a total of 18 Hulls produced. This particular design was introduced in 1968 as an in-house design as the largest of Pearson's then new series of yachts to replace the Rhodes 41 of their prior series. Hull #13 was the last of the very low aspect rigs, those which have a boom approx. 20' long with a mast P1 aprox 43.5". The P43 was a late CCA design, with a full keel section and cut away aft, to a skeg rudder, and what is considered now a small fore triangle and very large main. Basically this vessel was intended as a large off shore type racer, with excellent cruising accommodations and this vessel did well on the racing circuit in 1969 and 1970, but was hopelessly out-classed by the I.O.R.rating rule and the resulting I.O.R. type light designs. Pearson ceased production of this vessel in 1971 with only 18 vessels built. Even though, the P43 has retained its popularity as a cruiser due to its good deep sea keeping characteristics and its excellent accommodations for a vessel of its size and vintage. The construction of the P43 is to a high production standard, since in this model the techniques developed on Pearson's earlier series have been retained with both hulls and rig still overbuilt as compared to Pearson's later series vessels of equal size. At present, with the event of the "old Age" rerating rules used in racing and ratings, the P-43 could again become competitive within races using this type of rating. Moderate to heavy weather would favor the P-43.Optional Factory equipment on Shazam Not included in normal"Blue Book" prices:Diesel Engine, Custom Interior (Wood, not plastic as with most Pearsons). Only 6 of this deluxe design where produced out of the 18 total. All of the "Dated" electronics have been totally replaced or rebuilt to like new durability. Very few P43's have been offered over the last 3 years. With little turnover, statistical analysis of market price is difficult with any precision. Owners estimation of worth is $110,000 as equipped and updated ------end--------
