Chapter five.
A/N: *chewing on chocolate bar* this chapter has very important thingies and stuff. Not much Seifer, but he will come by on later chapters ^__^
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was lying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, studying every imperfection and indentation with odd interest.
Seifer. Seifer Almasy is
looking for me. For me! Not for Rinoa or Ultimecia, but for me!
What does it mean? I could be an opportunity for him, but he might care, I
mean, he cared before, why not now? There must have been a million occasions when he saved my life, and times when he refused to
fight a T-Rexaur because I was too tired. Always thinking
about the well-being of his comrades, such a caring person.
But the only thing that is confusing me is why he helped
Garden catch me. Did they pay him? Did they threaten him? Or did Leonhart have
something to do with it?
I sighed and rolled to my side.
So if I stay here for another
day, it can be considered that Seifer has spent a week waiting? That isn’t
good. Knowing him, he must have already quit looking for me, and found another
skirt to chase – he isn’t the patient type, as I recall… oh no, this can not
be good at all.
I rolled on my stomach and tried to not think about Seifer, I didn’t want to cry again.
There was a loud knock on the door, one I was sure would break it if repeated.
“Come in.” I called out and sat up.
“Sorceress.” The stubborn, giant dragon poked his head in and continued, “I was told you are in a hurry.”
My eyes winded, was he taking me back? “Yes!”
“Fine, let us begin.”
“Huh?” I frowned and followed him as he left my room. We headed towards the garden in which we were at only a few hours ago. “What are we going to do?”
“Practice, very quickly.” He explained then turned his face to me, “Now, what magic do you know?”
I frowned and crossed my arms, “All of it.”
“Very good.” He nodded then watched a white rabbit that was hopping around in the grass. “Cast a spell on that animal.”
I thought for a moment, the red eyes of the small creature pleading me not to, “No.” I refused, and then sent a nervous glance over to my tutor. “I don’t kill innocents.”
Instead of the growl I was expecting, I heard a deep chuckle. I looked up to Bahamut and saw him starting to laugh loudly, “So you are the innocent kind!”
“Umm…” I didn’t know how to respond to that, what did he mean?
His laugh ceased and then he looked down at me, showing his sharp fangs not in a threatening manner, but in what I could only interpret as a smile. I never knew guardian forces laughed at all!
Other than Siren, of course…
“Adel and Ultimecia failed this test, while the rest passed successfully.” He explained and walked forward.
“A test of humanity.” I mocked, following him.
“Yes, now for the next lesson.” He stopped at a dead tree, “Cast a healing spell on this.”
I joined my brows and nodded for him to step away, he did so and I closed my eyes in concentration, feeling the cold wind gather around my palm and then I whispered ‘Life’ - I opened my eyes to see the remains of white feathers fall against the dead bark, and then the tree suddenly bloomed and a few lush branches and small flowers grew on it.
He smiled down at me, and then moved to a ball-thingy. “This is an element ball,” he explained, “It is immune to the magic of its element, and it also changes element every three hits.”
I touched the ball and it suddenly jumped into the air, morphing into four colors: blue, yellow, red and white. It must represent the elements, I thought. So blue is water or ice, or maybe both, yellow must be thunder, red has to be fire and white…
“Bahamut,” I started to ask, “What does the white represent?”
“You must figure it out on your own.” He stepped back and left me alone in the battlefield, and I didn’t even have my pinwheel!
I silenced and closed my eyes, calling for a spell. When I opened my eyes I shouted, “Thundaga!”
“OUCH!” I grinned wickedly when the powerful bolt landed on Bahamut’s tail, turning it black. “Why’d you do that for?” He complained.
“Because its fun!” I reasoned and then returned to the big blob in front of me, wondering if it was nothing but a training instrument. It hadn’t attacked at all after all.
Just as I stopped thinking and started to wonder what element to use, it sent a water spell at me, soaking me to the bone. For a long moment, I just stood there, baffled. ‘So it does attack!’ I thought angrily.
“Thundara!” I shouted as I called for the spell from the back of my mind, surprised that I even have it! Being a sorceress must have its advantages, seeing that I could use magic I’ve never stocked.
The watery-looking ball morphed for a moment and I stood still, “Did it change element?” I asked.
The dragon behind me blew air on his burning tail then confirmed, “Yes.”
“You said it changes every three hits!”
“Nope.” He replied, “Every three wrong-element hits.” He looked at me evilly, “Thunder was a correct hit, so now find the next element.”
“This is stupid,” I crossed my arms, “I don’t want this.”
“Hmm, try telling her that.” he motioned to the ball, and before I even turned I was almost blown away with the tornado it cast on me. Ah-ha! My vision sharpened, so the white was wind!
But it was floating!
“Damn.” I cursed, and then spread my hands in the air, “I can’t cast an earth spell!”
“Then improvise.” He shrugged, “Cast three wrong spells.”
“Oh yeah!” I grinned, feeling adrenaline filling my blood, “Why cant I just throw a rock?”
“That’s what Carbuncle does.” He chuckled, “And always ends up with a fried tail.”
“Ow…” I scrunched up my nose at the thought, poor child. “Flare!” huh? I have Flare?
The ball churned inside-out for a little while, but it didn’t change color - crap.
“Blizzaga.” I sent the powerful spell and the ball churned again, still keeping its white color.
“Don’t waste your strong spells, it doesn't make a difference.” Bahamut instructed.
I nodded without looking at him, he was right. “Fire.”
The ball morphed violently and turned into a shady color of red. “Yes!” I happily hopped for a moment, and then focused on a Blizzara spell this time. The ball only fell to the floor, producing a huge puddle of plain water.
“Huh?” I looked quizzically at the puddle, and then peered back at my instructor, what did I do wrong?
He clapped his large hands approvingly, “Good job, you passed.”
I sighed happily then walked over to him, craning my neck upwards to get a good look at him. He kneeled down on one knee to be at eye-level with my shorter frame.
“Now, you rest.” He ordered.
“Bahamut,” I started softly, “Take me back.”
“You do not get it.” He frowned, the friendly atmosphere completely ruined. “You are not going back.”
“But you told me to rest and I did! You told me to practice my sorcery and I did!” I argued, “You said so!”
“I lied.” He explained rather bluntly, and then with a shrug he turned around and flew away.
I fought the tears and sadness for a long hour before deciding that I should go inside, why wouldn’t he take me back?
I stepped into a large room that was roofed with a glass dome. I would have admired it had I not been so busy-minded. “Siren.” I questioned when I saw her step into the room.
“Yes
“Is this a dining room?” I touched the long multi-chaired table.
“Yeah, we always eat here, so I guess it’s a dining room.” She smiled.
I nodded and sat on one of the chairs, hanging my head.
“
I got up and sat where she told me, then she started talking while placing forks and spoons. Her words fell upon empty ears though, for my mind had drifted away. I was thinking about Seifer, wondering where he was and what was he doing…
“-don’t you think?” golden eyes gleamed at me as she finished her sentence.
“Hmm, yeah…” whatever…
She placed her hands on her hips, “You didn’t even hear me!”
“I’m sorry.” I rested my forehead on the tabletop, just wanting to escape this place.
“What’s wrong?” she rushed to me and touched my shoulder, “You can tell me!”
“Bahamut is a jerk.” I growled and brushed back silver hair from my eyes.
“Don’t worry; he does that with every sorceress.”
“Really? Where are they?” I mocked; I didn’t see any sorceresses around!
“I’ll show them to you once we’re done eating.” She beamed and disappeared into a door.
‘Does that mean there are others? Oh my god! I don’t want to stay here!’ I thought with despair.
I suddenly felt the earth start to shake underneath my feet, and I held on to the table for dear life. An earthquake was going to happen!
A door behind me burst open, and a dusty herd of hungry male guardian forces made their way, or rather, wrestled their way to the dining table.
Diablos was leading the pack, kicking and pushing at Ifrit’s face who was stepping over Cactuar. Pandemonium was so pissed off at them that he blew a tornado, moving them away from his path, but making the three fall and pummel Tonberry flat. Carbuncle and Cerberus followed quietly when the dust calmed down.
I watched wide-eyed at the strange scene, but when they figured that I was looking at them, each found their feet very interesting and shuffled quietly into their seats.
“Ow, I hate my life.” Murmured the small green fellow, rubbing his sore, bald head.
“Are you okay?” I questioned, not really caring if some guardian forces were missing, such as Doomtrain and Bahamut.
“Hm, yes your highness.” He bowed and climbed up his chair, grabbing a spoon and awaiting his meal.
I nodded silently and watched the rest of the guys nervously grab their forks and spoons, looking everywhere but at me. “Ahem,” I cleared my throat, “Please, act like you usually do,”
Diablos glanced at me nervously, then touched his neck with his long fingernails. Was he pointing at something? I looked down at myself and realized that my shirt had started to stick to my skin, damn wet water spells…
I was about to get up and change my clothes, but Siren placed a plate full of delicious-looking meatball spaghetti in front of me. I’m not the macaroni type, but it looked quite good! And I just realized that I was starving!
My clothes could wait for later, I decided. Besides, I didn’t think they had anything decent for me to wear in Ultimecia’s closet.
Halfway through our meal, another earthquake shook the ground and all of the people around me groaned. Shiva, who had seated herself besides me, rolled her head and glared at Ifrit, “Whose turn is it this time?”
The fire beast widened his eyes innocently and swallowed his bite, “Ain’t me!”
“Siren?” questioned the ice queen.
“No! No way! No how, no what! It was me last week!” the tanned woman flung her arms in the air and continued to eat, ignoring the annoyed looks that the guys were giving her.
“I can do it!” chirped cute Carbuncle.
“No Curby, it’s too dangerous.” Shiva got up and grabbed a plate full of spaghetti.
“What is going on?” I questioned, totally puzzled. Why were they fighting over an earthquake?
Shiva stood near a wall, then looked at me, “Doomtrain needs to eat too you know, but he cannot stop at such a high speed, so we give him his meal on the run.” She shrugged and I heard a faint train whistle echo in the distance, then a high-pitched voice called: “RUNAWAY TRAIN!”
The wall crashed open and I saw a blur of reds and grays pass by Shiva. The plate of food was snatched from her hand in a flash. The wall on the opposite side was smashed as well as the mad train passed through it, making holes in the walls was probably something usual at every mealtime…
I don’t want to live here forever!
Shiva sat quietly next to me and they all continued eating as if nothing had happened. O-D-D life…
“So, this is how you feed a train?” I asked, almost too afraid of the answer.
Shiva nodded quietly, then spoke, “Luckily, he doesn’t eat every day.”
“Yeah,” added Carbuncle, “He only eats evewy week, I dunno how he dusnt starwe!”
I smiled softly then excused myself. I didn’t feel like eating, I had Seifer on my mind and with the way time flies so fast here, I didn’t think he’d have me on his mind for very long.
I wonder how Raijin is doing, haven’t seen him in a
while. He must have been frightened when I electrified him. Where does that
electricity come from anyway?
Just when I stepped out of the dining room, Siren called and followed me, “Hey Fuji,” she started, “Do you want to see those sorceresses I told you about?”
“Sure,” I shrugged, Why not…
She beamed and guided me to a wide locked door, then pressed a single finger to her lips, “Shh, don’t tell Bahamut we came here!” we sneaked in and she closed the door behind us quietly.
I nodded absently and stared at a few vertical capsules with misty cold fog surrounding them. “This is them?” I asked - oh my god.
“Yup,” the tanned woman crossed her arms, clearly finding our surroundings chilly, but to me the temperature was totally normal. “They’re frozen over. They’re dead, don’t worry.”
I squinted my eyes, in an effort to discern the misty body inside one of the capsules. Yes, it was certainly a lady, her arms were crossed Shiva-style to cover her naked body. Her skin was blue as the cold water she was soaked in, and her face lacked any trace of life. Her hair was white and straight against her shoulders and arms. ‘Why does she have white hair?’ I wondered.
“How old is she?” I asked and pointed to the sorceress I was looking at.
Siren turned from Ultimecia’s capsule and regarded the one in front of me, frowning as she searched her memory.
“I dunno, probably twenty or twenty-three…”
I frowned and looked back at the frozen woman, “Twenty?” I looked back at siren who nodded her approval, “Are you sure?”
She nodded again and turned to Ultimecia, “Look at her. She was here ages ago, but she only died recently and her capsule is still warm.”
I touched the glass and it was really warmer than that of the white-haired woman. “So Leonhart didn’t fight her body?”
“Nope,” tanned cheeks chunked in a grin, “She stayed here for her own safety but got her consciousness killed, ironic huh?”
I nodded and got back to thinking about that white woman. “So who is that?” I touched the frozen glass.
“Actually
I chuckled, “No Siren but-” I was cut off when the door opened.
“Oopse!” Siren shrieked and hid behind me.
Angry emerald eyes scanned the room before glaring at us. “And what, if I may ask, are you doing here?” his voice roared, threatening to disturb the calm liquids in the capsules.
“H-how, how did you find us?” Siren squeaked, faking fear but obviously enjoying the angry look on his face.
“Such a Tilmitt-ish question,” he puffed, “Easy, first of all, I guard this place. Secondly, you speak too loudly, Siren. Thirdly, Curby-chan kept crying his eyes out because he couldn’t tag along, so I figured you’d be here.” He crossed his arms, “well, as Diablos likes to put it, you are the lady of mischief.”
“Oh.” she squeezed my arm, “Well, me ‘n
He was blocking the exit, “I do not think so!” he roared angrily, but then his eyes widened when Siren’s small hands clasped around his beak.
“Shh, not so loud!” she whispered and I felt a chuckle bubble within me. “Remember what happened last time?”
“What happened last time?” I asked, curious.
“It doesn't matter-” Bahamut started embarrassedly but then Siren cut in.
“Last time,” she started, glaring at the huge dragon, “He spoke so high-pitched that the glass shattered! And that revived about three or four sorceresses!”
“I thought they were dead!” I glanced fearfully at Ultimecia, shrugging unconsciously.
“Some of them are, but others are just asleep.” Siren jerked a finger to Ultimecia’s container then affirmed, “Ultimecia’s dead,” she then pointed to the girl behind me “But that girl over there is just asleep.”
“Bahamut, who is this girl?” I asked the dragon and he frowned, regarding the petite cold body inside the shell.
“She is…” he hesitated, and that caused both Siren and I to grab on his legs and beg for information, “You do not need to know.” He finally said.
“Aww, c’mon Bahamut! Don’t be a meanie!” Siren hugged his large leg and begged.
“Tell me!” I squeezed harder and he sighed in defeat.
“This, this is Ultimecia’s daughter.”
We both gasped in surprise and let go of his legs.
“She has been here for as long as I can remember, though a few years back she was nothing but a child. I do not know how she got in that receptacle, but it’s as if she was born in this place.” He explained with a forlorn look on his face.
I gave the girl a hard look and almost fainted, “Could- could it be-”
“Don’t even think about it,” Bahamut held my arm and dragged us both outside. “You should not have gone in there, and you know that Siren!” he scolded the tanned woman harshly.
“But- but
“She could easily look into a mirror! I- err.. I mean-“ he stuttered and slammed the door behind him, “I didn’t mean that, I just said-”
“Oh my god,” I gasped, “That was me wasn’t it?” the white hair, the petite body, just as my age and an unidentified identity… oh no… “Bahamut, you will not keep me here!”
He sighed and turned around to leave.
“Bahamut I order you to take me back!” I needed to speak with Seifer if it was the last thing I did, and it just might be!
“I cannot.” He growled, “I would if could, but I can’t so I won’t”
“Because I’m here and there at the same time, right?” I shouted angrily and ran to catch up with his wide strides.
“No!” he stopped and whirled around to face me, or rather look down at me, “I cannot threaten to disturb your soul just for an earthily matter.”
I thought for a long moment, “WHAT?” ‘
“Your soul is in there, your consciousness and
unconsciousness are right here in front of
“Oh,” I huffed, “So now there is a soul too?”
He rolled his eyes and continued to head for the gardens.
Siren, who was following us quietly, spoke, “So you’re Ulti’s daughter?”
Oh, that…
I sighed bitterly and leaned on her, “I don’t know, it doesn't make sense.”
“Well,” she shrugged, “It makes real sense if you read the holy books of Hyne.”
I snapped at her, “Holy books? Hyne? Where are they?” I demanded and followed as she guided me into a huge library.
Siren searched for a long while, but then we heard a rustle come from behind one of the shelves. Both of us stalked around the corner like too teenagers coming home late at night, to our surprise we found Diablos turning around suddenly and hiding something behind his back.
“GAH!” he gasped in surprise and grinned sheepishly, “Ladies! What are you doing here?”
“We’re looking for a book,” Siren rolled her eyes, “What are you doing here?”
“I’m, uh, uh … uhh…” he looked around guiltily, “I was um… reading! Yeah, that’s it!”
“You weren’t reading Diablos,” Siren figured, then snatched whatever object he had been trying to conceal. His eyes went wide with embarrassment and he hung his head. “EEP!” she shrieked and dropped the naughty magazine to the floor, stepping on it, “I’m gonna tell Bahamut on you!”
“No! Siren please!” he begged and I took step aside to stay away from their conversation.
“What’s my price?” Siren suddenly turned evil.
“Arrg!” the black beast growled, and slapped his forehead - I fought a chuckle. “Name… it…”
Siren beamed and grabbed his arm, “Give me back whatever underwear you stole from my cabinet!”
“Damn,” he stomped angrily and left the place, “You’ll find them in your drawer.”
“All nice and tidy!” Siren reminded him, while wiggling her fingers to his retreating form.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever…” he murmured and slammed the door behind him.
“Thank yoo!” Siren chirped in her usual perky attitude, and got back to my issue. “So, where is that book?” She turned to a bookshelf and then looked for a moment. I kind of zoned out right then, thinking of why the girl was there, why was she Ultimecia’s daughter and why was she me? Did that mean I was Ultimecia’s daughter? That… was so… bad.
“AAAAAAAH!” Siren bumped into me when she backed off from the shelf, grabbing my shirt and whimpering nonsense.
“What is it?”
“G- gimme! Gimme c- c- cat!” she stuttered and pressed her face to my leg. “Help me!”
I corked an eyebrow and glanced at the bottom shelf.
Curious golden eyes looked quite innocent as they peered up at me, they looked more fearful than evil. When the small cat came out of the shadows, I noticed that it had black stripes over its purple fur; it actually looked cute!
“Here kitty!” I cooed and leaned down holding my arm out.
A small black nose touched my forefinger as the small creature approached fearfully.
“You’re so cute!” I murmured softly and Siren shrieked again, almost popping my ears.
“Eww! Don’t touch it! Don’t touch it!” she lectured, “It’s not cute! It’s evil!”
“Siren, shut up.” I frowned, “You sound like Carbuncle.”
She pouted and scuffled away from me and the cat, “Fine, let it bite you, I don’t care.”
I shook my head and looked down at the cat. To my surprise, when I looked down, it had a shoe in its mouth. Now where did that come from? I thought for an instant then snapped, “That is my shoe!”
Just as I acknowledged my loss, the cat grinned, white sharp fangs glittering. The small animal then ran out, and disappeared before I had a chance to blink.
After a long, awkward moment, Siren spoke, “See.”
I blinked… “Ouch.”
She nodded, “Mhmm.”
“Okay.” I raised my brows, “He’s good.”
“I know.”
“Very good.”
“Yeah, I know.”
We stood there for a long while, dumbfounded, until someone cleared his throat behind us. We both turned around in unison, crossing our arms behind our backs like guilty school girls.
Bahamut coughed, “What did he steal this time?”
I looked down at my bare foot then back at him.
“I see,” he fought a smile, and then scooped me up in his huge arms. “I shall take care of that, you should not walk around barefooted.”
“Bahamut,” I whispered, and felt him swallow, was I too close? “Take me back.”
He stopped and then looked down at me, a bit of anger showed but it was quickly replaced by sadness.
“I would love to take you back, there are just a lot of things that you have not learned yet, and cannot leave without knowing.” he glared Siren, “And you have her to blame.”
Siren looked sheepish as she followed, “Sowwy.”
“By the way, I found this on the floor.” He shoved a big book into Siren’s face and glared.
“Oh! ‘The holy book of Hyne’!” Siren beamed and held the book to her chest. Bahamut crossed the distance between the library and my room shortly, then placed me in front of my room and excused himself.
“Come on
“Sure.” I don’t feel so good about this.
After closing the door, I sat next to her on the bed and we both stared at the huge book. It was written in a language foreign to me, did Siren understand it?
“Umm,” she started, turning over the pages without looking at them, “Maybe we should call Shiva.” Nope, I don’t think Siren understood it either…
Siren got up and left the room to call Shiva, while I lay down and turned over the pages of the old book. There were badly drawn pictures decorating a few pages, only one of them drew my attention.
The picture was of a woman with long gray hair, and a perfectly toned body, dressed in a gown fit for a queen. She was holding hands with an anonymous person, who looked quite male and had blond hair and a tall frame. The picture was old and worn out, the colors weren’t clear enough to make out the shade of their eyes or clothes. What really got my attention was that they were watching a little girl, of about two years or three of age, sitting on the floor with her fists over her eyes, crying. Poor child.
Shiva and Siren walked in, the latter talking non-stop about the purple cat, and her companion gasping.
They smiled and joined me on my bed; it felt like having a girl’s slumber party! Kind of fun, if you know what to actually do in such an occasion.
“What are you looking at?” Shiva smiled and looked at the picture, studying it, “This is Ultimecia.”
“It is?” I asked.
“Yes, it says so right here.” She pointed to an old scribble, “Sorceress Ultimecia, the most powerful descendant of Hyne.”
Both siren and I stared in awe at the picture, and a mutual understanding passed between us; that was my mother then, and that little girl must have been me.
Did I even believe it?
“Your grace…” started the ice queen, “What ever happened to your shoe?” she regarded my bare foot and I smiled embarrassedly.
“Umm, that cat-thief stole it.” I explained and took off the other pair, as if to not attract attention.
All three of us giggled and got back to the book, Shiva explained that Hyne had told about a great sorceress and read a paragraph that got me thinking, “… there will be a sorceress who is capable of turning back and speeding up time, but she will use it for her own purposes. However those purposes seem motherly or friendly, they will cause havoc to all beings and might end the human race. The legendary hero shall defeat her and peace shall reign again with the help of the legendary sorceress.”
I frowned in thought, “So Squall has to stick his nose everywhere?”
Siren glanced at me, “You mean that handsome silky-haired dude? I think he’s got a cute butt!”
“Siren,” Shiva warned, “You know you’re too young for that. Besides, it might just tick Ifrit off.”
“Let him tick, let him explode, I don’t care!” Siren stuck her tongue out then concluded, “Besides, I think Leonhart is cute and he’s single!” she glared at Shiva.
“Me and Ifrit are not going out, Siren, and you are still too young.”
Siren looked thoughtful as she placed a finger on her chin, mocking, “Oh, I dunno, I never mentioned you two going out!”
Shiva’s eyes widened, “Just what are you implying, young lady?”
Siren gulped, “I’m - umm. I was implying that Squall was cute and single, but you burst my bubble!”
I decided to end the fight and asked, “Isn’t Squall in love with the legendary sorceress?”
“I thought he loved that bossy girl who married Cactu- I mean, Kinneas.” Siren made herself comfortable on the mattress and closed the book, prepared for girl talk.
“She is the legendary sorceress, isn’t she?” I asked.
“No one knows,” Shiva cleared then added, “Maybe Rinoa wanted to be a mother.”
Huh?
“What does being a mother has to do with being with your knight?” Siren asked what was about to leave my own lips.
“Well,” Shiva crossed her legs and prepared for a lesson, Trepe style, “Since you asked, I
wanted to tell Fujin about this anyway. You see,
Siren cut in, “We know about that PMSy part Sheevs, get it over with.” Siren shook her head in dismissal.
Shiva cleared her throat then continued, “I was not going to talk about that, Siren, I was going to talk about when a woman becomes a sorceress.” She stopped glaring at the other girl then smiled motherly at me, “You see, Fujin, when you became a sorceress, you chose your knight, so it was decided that you would not have kids with that man, your knight.”
I blinked, “What?”
The ice queen shifted then started explaining again, “Sorceresses do not have kids. If they do, it is not with their knights, that’s why Rinoa had to leave Squall and marry another to be able to have children.”
Siren frowned, “Hyne sure was weird.”
The cold elemental continued, “Yes, but on the other hand, Edea decided to stay with her knight, but because of that she was denied motherhood.”
“And raised orphans.” I continued, it all made sense then! Rinoa didn’t leave Leonhart because she hated him, but because she wanted to be a mother and that was not possible if she stayed with him. No wonder he still loves her!
So, does that mean I can’t have children with my knight? But why? Why has fate to be so cruel?
“Well, Ulti had a man and a child in the picture,” Siren whined, “How come?”
Shiva shrugged, “Maybe he was not her knight.”
“How do you know who your knight is anyway?” I questioned, rather annoyed at the irrational thoughts that crossed my mind.
“You don’t,” Shiva stretched her legs then sat straight, “If you love him and he loves you back, I think that means he’s your knight.”
“How do you know you love him?” Siren asked with a wide grin.
“Siren, you don’t love Leonhart. And I dunno how you know, or I would have decided on either Ifrit or Bahamut!” she shrugged and poked out her blue tongue.”
“Eww! Ifrit is so, so-- Furry!” Siren cringed, “And Bahamut is too grouchy, I think humans are cuter, easier to have and all.”
“You get into their heads Siren, of course you have them!” Shiva flung her hands in the air.
“Shiva,” I asked quietly, “Who changed your junction?”
She blinked, “I dunno, I think I’m with the sharpshooter now.” A fearful look washed over her face, “Oh my god! I’m developing a crush over Diablos’s butt! Help me!” she covered her face, “This guy sure is hot- I mean... Disgusting…”
Siren grinned, “And you blame me for being perky and look at guys often, he junctioned you huh?” she snickered and poked the ice woman’s shoulder, “Good luck!”
I groaned playfully and dropped my head to the bed, “You girls are incorrigible!”
Both guardian forces glanced at me quizzically.
“I knew that word moments ago, now I can’t even understand what autobiography means.” Shiva squinted and shook her head.
“It’s the guy Shiva, you won’t have anything other than porn in your head for a good… six weeks.”
Shiva cried out in fear and buried her face in the pillow, “The horror.”
I laughed softly but then looked at the darkening sky, “Shiva, do you think Bahamut will take me back?”
Shiva poked her head out from the fluffy pillows and pretended drying tears, “He’s a cement wall, doesn't move and doesn't talk.”
Siren shrugged, “That’s the saying anyway.”
I nodded then sighed. Oh Seifer… if only I get to talk with you once, just once.
“Siwen,” a sleepy small voice sneaked into my room. “I’m sweepy,”
“No, you’re Curby,” Siren joked. “Oh my
god! Its
The small green fellow smiled sleepily, “yeah, pwonto.” He nodded, “what’s dat?”
“It means right away.” Siren took his hand then guided him out, saying her goodnights to Shiva and me, for she was going to sleep as well. Being a caretaker of such a lively fellow didn’t leave much chance for staying late and chitchat with girls.
Shiva must have figured the question that I was thinking about, for she said, “She takes care of the kids and -along with the help of Ifrit and Tonberry- the kitchen, and I take care of the big guys when they fight.”
I shrugged, “Big boys don’t need a mommy.”
“Some of them do.” She side-smirked but then covered her mouth, “Oh my god, his attitude is getting to me already! I should go wash my face with hot water -hoping that it won’t melt- then go to sleep, so like, goodnight alright?”
It was
I sighed and concentrated on my breathing, something I learned at gym class that made my nerves ease. A lot of information had been stored inside my head, and they all had first priority.
First of all, I need to talk with Seifer. Second was I needed to make sure if he was my knight, and third, I needed to start crying if he was, because then I wouldn’t be able to be a mother if I was to ever marry him.
Why couldn’t sorceresses have kids with their knights? Was it to be fully prepared to use high magic, or was Hyne just PMSy or something when she made those rules? Maybe her knight couldn’t give her kids, so she decided she’d curse all the others. Maybe and maybe and maybe, why am I thinking this right now?
I got up and closed the window. Although the air was warm and spring-like, it was getting a bit chilly. How does the weather stay warm here while it’s freezing over in my world?
I decided -since I had no pajamas- I’d sleep in the clothes I was wearing and change them the next day. Hmm, no, I sparred with that crystal elemental ball this morning, I’m dried up but I must be sweaty. I got off the bed and opened the drawer, finding nothing but dresses with too much cleavage and spaghetti-strap nightgowns. I settled on a short white silky one, since I’ve dreamt so much of wearing one on my wedding night. My cheeks grew hot when I pulled it on, imagining Seifer complementing me and daring to touch my shoulder…
‘Oh no… must go to sleep now…’ I scolded myself, ‘I shouldn’t be thinking this, its already been a week back there with him, and he might have given up on looking for me already… if he had ever started, that is. He has a very short attention span when it comes to focusing one mission.’
I climbed onto the bed and settled between the sheets, feeling small in such a huge cot. Maybe I should have asked Curby to keep me company.
I sighed and rolled to my side, thinking, ‘Maybe I should just go to sleep.’
I needed all my power, and my wits, to convince lizard-man to take me back.
End of chapter five.
