Give a Reason
Chapter fourteen:
A/N: had enough fluff yet? Well, guess what? This is the last chapter! :(
-------
Fujin’s eyes refused to open. They were heavy, in a pleasant manner. The chirping bird didn’t bother her as usual either.
She snuggled closer to the bundle of warmth at her side, and murmured something even she didn’t understand.
“Mm, babe.” Seifer pulled her closer and sighed groggily.
Fujin cracked an eye open, and glanced up at the noble features that were smiling sleepily at her. “Morning.” Her voice was soft and husky. Everything seemed to go frame-by-frame as she shifted again and hugged his arm.
Her hair was in her eyes, but it didn’t bother her. Everything seemed right for once. Her legs were so tangled with Seifer’s, that she didn’t know where she ended and he started, but that didn’t matter either.
“Seifer.” Fujin whispered and kissed his chest.
“Hmm?” he stopped mid-snore and opened his eyes to look at her. “Morning?”
She smiled and felt an amount of happiness that she had never felt before. “I love you!”
Seifer nodded “Me too.” When he shifted, his pelvis rubbed against her thigh, sending a wave of warmth through both of them.
Again, everything went into slow motion when he leaned down to kiss the corner of her mouth, “How about another round?”
She giggled, “I can’t wait till I heal!”
He gave a grunt, “Yeah, that… I forgot... Damn.” With that, he rested his head against her shoulder.
She sighed and brushed back his hair, “I never knew how gentle you could be, thank you so much!”
He nodded, “I feared you’d break if I wasn’t.” he hugged her tightly, “Thank you so much, you have no idea how many wounds you have healed.”
She smiled and stretched, before caressing the hard muscles of his back lovingly, “No more phobia?”
He made his point clear by touching the sensitive curve of her breast, ever so gently.
“Guess not.” She giggled and took a deep breath, passion threatening to blind her again.
“I dun wanna go to work today.” He buried his face into her chest, “I can’t be away from you anymore.”
“Take the day off.” She suggested.
“Nah, if I wanted a day off, then I’ll have to go to the phone. For that, I’ll have to get up, move my legs and open the door… Such a long journey.” He sighed.
Fujin giggled and pulled the covers over his shoulder, leaving her own exposed, “Maybe you don’t want to leave the warmth, I mean yesterday was warm, but today is kind of chilly.”
“I see.” Seifer glanced down at her body and chuckled at the reaction, “I mean, I know.”
The young sorceress pouted playfully. “You think I can’t see it on you either?”
Both of them blushed furiously and burrowed under the covers, in a tangled heap of limbs.
“*Sigh* I love you, my knight.”
Seifer smiled, “I love you too, my lady.”
The sun edged a bit upwards in its nonstop journey to the other side, casting a single ray of light through the window, tiny dust specks dancing inside it. Slowly, a ball of fog formed into the floor and grew till it formed the shape of a human.
Fujin gasped, pulled the covers over her chest, and brushed back her hair. “Ken!”
Seifer lifted his head up and squinted, “How the hell did you get in here?”
Elegant features carved by age and scarred by misery softened and shone a smile, “Its time.”
“Time for what?” Seifer demanded angrily. Who did that guy think he is, to just barge in here like it was his own house?
Ken’s smile faltered, “Ultimecia demands...” he breathed, “Demands that Sorceress Fujin is brought to the sorceress memorial.”
“Like hell.” Seifer growled and reached for his boxers. “How did you get in?”
The elder man’s face showed indifference, “I came through the light. Too bad I missed on the events that happened yesterday, too dark for my taste.”
Both young adults flushed at the mere thought of him watching them in their most personal moments.
Seifer got up and stood before his grandfather -he still couldn’t believe it though- before speaking, “Let her demand, she can’t do anything to us.”
Ken pulled his out his golden sword, its blade shining and reflecting the light into Seifer’s eyes.
“Damn.” Seifer squinted and stepped back, reaching for his sword.
Ken shook his head, “She can’t do anything to you, but I can.”
Fujin panicked, “Seifer.”
Seifer retrieved his sword from its case, and just as he thrust Hyperion at the blond man, it was blocked roughly. Seifer’s eyes went wide when he realized that Ken’s sword was an exact model of his own Hyperion, except that it was golden.
Fujin trembled, “Seifer, get me something to wear, please.”
“Stay right there, Fuu, you’re not going anywhere.”
Emerald eyes shone when Ken pushed Seifer away with one jerk of his blade, “Get her a dress, you have no other choice.”
“Seifer please.” Fujin begged, unbelievingly scared of the situation. Ken had never been aggressive or rough in his demands. Even when he wanted Raijin’s book, he had never laid hands on her to retrieve it, and in the end, the subject was dropped, “I think Ultimecia has brainwashed him, he’s not himself!”
Seifer glanced from her to the man and then back to her, “He won’t hesitate to kill me, will he?”
When the young sorceress shook her head, Seifer cursed and grabbed two shirts and some pants from the closet. He tossed his wife a shirt and one of the pairs, before slipping into the same himself, “Do you need help?”
Fujin got up slowly, “No, I’ll be fine.” She threw the shirt on before standing up and easing the pants on, giving a small grimace as she bent down.
Seifer glared at his rival, daring him to take one glance at his wife’s direction. She was his now, no one but him had the right to look at her.
Hell, it was always like this! He was always protective when it came to Fujin-related matters.
“Seifer…” Fujin glanced worriedly at him.
“Don’t worry, Fuu. I’ll protect you.” He promised before taking one step forward, his nose almost touching Ken’s. “Fine, take us there.”
Ken’s emotionless eyes reflected nothing as his brows twitched, and in an instant all the walls blended together, different neon and black objects merged in a flurry of colors.
Fujin stepped closer to her husband and hugged his arm, “Compressed time.”
“Here?”
“Aha.” She nodded, as she recognized this place from when Bahamut had mistakenly dropped her into compressed time, in an attempt to cross the wall between the two realities. “It’s just a doorway.”
Before Seifer could utter a word, the world around them returned to a familiar solidness, and pinkish-gray walls stood firm on the marble floor.
Fujin felt fear and dread through her knight’s arm. She wasn’t the only one who was frightened.
“Come.” The elder man spoke confidently, and guided the two through a maze of deserted hallways.
Seifer followed slowly, careful not to rush his wife, “Can you walk?”
She smiled lovingly at him, “It’s not that bad.”
“Really?” he questioned, fully willing to carry her anywhere.
“Yes, really.” She shivered, “This place is creeping me out, I just want to get out of here.”
“Soon.” Spoke Ken in a monotone voice.
After two turns, they reached a round huge capsule with a single figure inside.
A pure white dress adorned a perfectly slim body, which was crowned by long silver locks of hair. Lightly colored eyelashes fluttered open to allow a yellow-colored gaze through.
“Ultimecia.” Fujin voiced weakly.
Seifer took a step backwards in his shock and to protect his love from the evil that was sure to attack.
The sorceress of the future floated down through the walls of the capsule, and touched her knight’s cheek soothingly, “You shall be rewarded, Ken. I promise.”
The brainwashed knight only nodded absently, staring at nothing in particular.
Piercing sunray orbs burned into sea-green ones, when Ultimecia frowned at her daughter’s knights. “Kurse you, Almasy.” She spat, “The day you’ll marry my daughter will be the day I kiss Cervantes again.”
Seifer frowned, “You’re too late, we’re already husband and wife.”
After an awkward moment, Ultimecia blinked, “Married?”
Fujin swallowed and peeked from behind her husband’s broad shoulders, “A few days ago.”
Tears filled the elder woman’s eyes, as she ran and hugged her daughter affectionately, surprising the young adults. “Oh my little baby!” she cried in her Russian accent, “You have grown so much!”
Fujin had a disgusted/bewildered look on her face as her mother showered her with kisses. “Y-Yeah right.” She pushed away, “You dumped me!”
Ultimecia brushed away the tears with the back of her hand, “I did not dump you! Those stupid Guardian Forces neglekted my protektion and hard work, and just let you slip into a Gimme-Kat portal.” She pouted, “Ken konvinced me to just freeze them into statues, but that stupid Leonhart freak freed them.”
Seifer popped into the silly conversation and noted, “Is that why Carbuncle, Sacred and Minotaur were turned into statues?”
Ultimecia nodded, not looking in his direction, “I
played a bit with the kid, let the lizard eat him then froze him, the two
dolts, though, were no fun.” She shook her head, “I went through the whole kompressing-time maze just to go back to that moment where
I leave you with the GFs, so that I
“Why did you leave me?” Fujin’s voice sounded just as vulnerable as she felt, like a little kid. She had finally found the one person who could answer all her questions, her mother.
Ultimecia kissed her daughter’s hair and smiled fondly at her, “I had to get rid of a few maggots… Skuakk- or whatever his name was, had reached the future and was trying to break into our kastle!”
Seifer snickered at his rival’s improved name.
Fujin blinked, “So, Squall went to the future, where I was just a little kid, killed you and got back here to live happily while I was ripped from my family?” Unbelievable how one person can change so many lives in one action!
The taller sorceress nodded, “Kurse those SeeD’s, had it not been for them, I would have risen you like the noble little princess you should have been. You kould have been the new Hyne!” she shook her head in despair, “Tainted by the evil of humans, I never wanted that for you, I never even wanted it for me!” she sniffled, “I was the only sorceress to aktually give birth to her child in the Magik world!”
“How can you?” Fujin questioned eagerly. This is the topic she wanted to hear.
“Easy.” The mother shrugged, “Get laid and poof, you are pregnant.”
Fujin shook her head irritably, “No! Wasn’t I your knight’s child?”
“Oh, that!” Ultimecia laughed, “Oh, yes you were. But to have that you have to have a long list of cirkumstances!”
Fujin nodded eagerly, the only thing she wanted now was to make Seifer happy, and bear his child, “Tell me!”
Ultimecia made a face, “No, You are not to bear this failure’s child.” She jerked a pale thumb to the blond knight to her left. “He failed in every mission I gave him!”
Fujin frowned, “Well, he’s been good to me and I love him!”
“Puff! All teenagers say that krap!”
“I’m not a teenager! I’m twenty-one! And its not krap!” Fujin screeched.
“Well, you made a bad choice!” Ultimecia crossed her arms, glaring at her daughter’s husband, “I suppose you two have already gotten into bed, huh?”
Seifer corked an eyebrow.
“Thought so.” She hissed, “See! All he wanted was your body!”
Fujin shook her head, “We only were together yesterday! It still hurts!” she placed her hand lightly over her belly.
Ultimecia suddenly stopped arguing and blinked, “It was your first?”
Fujin nodded, feeling heat spill onto her cheeks.
“Him, too?”
Fujin looked down and Seifer cleared his throat.
A sudden wave of happiness washed over the older sorceress and she grinned, “Just yesterday?”
Fujin lifted her head up and squealed, “Yes! Why are you asking? It’s embarrassing!”
Ultimecia held her daughter’s hands, “Were you happy?”
Fujin flushed, “Never felt happier!”
“Were the lights out?”
“Yes the lights were out!” Fujin laughed, “Why are you asking all this?”
“Perfekt!” Ultimecia squealed happily, “Let’s go!” she dragged her daughter behind her as she stepped towards the capsule.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Seifer growled and pressed the tip of his sword to Ultimecia’s throat.
“I’ve heard about people hating their mother’s-in-law, but this is ridikule.” She frowned, “Ken.”
The programmed knight leaped forward, and clashed his Golden Hyperion to Seifer’s dark-grey one, pressing the younger man into a wall.
“Dammit! Fujin! Do something! Don’t go with her!” He rasped.
“Kuiet, you wimp!” cursed
the sorceress, “I didn’t kause havok
all around the world and brain-washed hundreds of people -which was tiring by
the way- just so you
Fujin refused to move to the capsule with her mother, “I don’t want to go back there.” Maybe a few days ago I wanted to, but now… now I have something to live up to, maybe I’ll be able to bear Seifer’s child someday. She thought before ripping her hand away from her mother’s.
“Don’t do this, Fujin.” Warned the yellow-eyed
sorceress, “I
“Are you PMSy?” suddenly asked Ken when the brainwashing thinned out in his head.
Ultimecia blinked, “Why?”
“You are going through a lot of mood-swings lately, I have my shins to prove it.” He had just stopped strangling Seifer and turned back to his sister. “One minute you are crying, the other you’re threatening to destroy this guy, he’s my grandson for crying out loud!”
Ulti corked an eyebrow, “It’s a middle-age krisis I’m going through.” She snapped her finger and Ken’s eyes misted again.
The Golden Hyperion clashed into the gray one again, when Ken’s brainwashing was revived.
“Ken, this time kill him. Please!”
“No!” Fujin shrieked, “What do you mean kill him? He’s my husband!”
Ultimecia sighed, “Sweetheart, he’s no good for you! He’ll just dump you for any other girl when he’s done!”
“No he won’t.” Fujin pouted, “Would you, Seifer?” both albinos turned to the knight as he fought for his life.
“No! Of course I won’t!”
“See!”
“Feh,” Sulked the sorceress, “He’s got a sword at his throat, of kourse he’ll deny.”
“Why am I even asking you?” Fujin shrugged at her own silliness, “You got yourself pregnant and became a single parent, and living with your brother! That is just the perfect life to rate others’ happiness, isn’t it?”
A small string of electricity shot to form a random light from Ultimecia’s body when a muscle twitched in her cheek. “I didn’t get myself pregnant! I married the man! And Cervantes didn’t leave me…he died fighting! -Ironikally, with my murderer’s father- but oh well. And my brother needed me!” she scowled, “And don’t you talk back to me, young lady!”
Strings of static shot everywhere as the two sorceresses fought, “I’m an adult! I can talk back to whoever I want to!”
“Not to me.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Of kourse!”
“Well fine!” Fujin flung her arms about in exasperation and turned, wanting to walk away. To her surprise, Ultimecia flashed in front of her and knocked her down.
Adrenaline gushed into her bloodstream, and Fujin got up to fight back. Without the aid of her Shuriken, she had to rely completely on magic.
Fujin sent her arms up, “Kaze yo!” A strong gust of wind slammed into her mother’s small frame, and sent her reeling backwards.
Both Fujin and Ultimecia were absently aware of their surroundings, the earth was starting to shake and the screech of swords clashing together could be heard.
Seifer growled and hauled Hyperion above his head to slam it against the other swordsman’s shoulder. But the latter was inhumanely quick and blocked the attack with ease.
“Kurse of all kurses.” Ultimecia growled and got up slowly, rubbing her head where it had collided with the wall, “You ungrateful child!”
Fujin flinched, “I’m not ungrateful! I’m just defending my knight!”
“Well! Your knight is killing my brother!” Ultimecia’s palms shone as she called for a Flare spell.
Fujin abruptly called for a shell to shield herself from the strong magic, faintly hearing Seifer’s shouts and grunts in his eager attempt to reach her.
“Well, your brother is killing my husband!” Fujin growled, whiles trying to plant her feet firmly into the shaking ground. “Pandemona!”
Just as the large Guardian appeared, Ultimecia pointed her fingers at the huge beast before it disappeared into fog.
Fujin’s eyes widened, “You just killed my favorite pet!”
Ultimecia bit her lip, “Sorry! Didn’t mean to!”
Fujin sniffled, “How could you!”
“Sorry!” Ultimecia suddenly went soft and reached to sooth her baby, when suddenly Fujin grinned and called, “Bahamut!”
…
……
Nothing came…
“Smooth move, child.” Ultimecia crossed her arms, ignoring the pieces of the ceiling that were falling at her sides, “Bahamut needs to heal after his fight with Tiamat.”
Fujin shielded her head from the falling ceiling and squinted, “Huh?
Ultimecia laughed, and called for a Quake spell. Shattering the earth even more. “Oopsies…” O_O (AN: she doesn’t have any tattoos anymore)
Ken, Seifer, Ultimecia and Fujin all scrambled away from the shattering ground to a firmer surface.
“Smooth move, mom.” Fujin clenched her jaws, and looked back at her husband who had a split lip and a swelling bruise on his brow. “Seifer-” before Fujin could utter another word, Ken thrust at Seifer and the latter had to defend himself.
“Okay, wrong spell there.” The yellow-eyed sorceress scratched her head, “Fujin, we need to get out of here before it’s too late!”
“I’m only leaving with Seifer!” Fujin frowned, “Besides, go where?” Fujin’s shield worn out and she had to revive it before Ultimecia’s Maelstrom hit. “Dammit Ultimecia! Why are you attacking me?”
“Shut your krap! I’m your mother! You don’t kurse your mother!”
Fujin glanced nervously behind her, hearing a strangled yelp of pain behind her made her jolt and fear for her husband, “Make them stop!”
Ulti smirked, “Make me!”
Fujin shivered and frowned, before crying, “Mommy wouldn’t make them stop! *waaa*”
All other surrounding people blinked at her, fights forgotten.
“It was an attempt!” she shrugged, “Didn’t work, sheesh…”
Ultimecia smiled and ignored the battle that continued in the background, “Now come!” she held Fujin’s hand, “We need to get you home before it’s too late!”
“TOO LATE FOR WHAT?” Fujin shrieked, “My uncle and husband are killing each other, and you’re going through strange mood swings, wanting me to go somewhere I don’t even know, for a reason I’m not interested in!”
Ken and Seifer were so intent on winning that their wounds and gashes didn’t matter. Seifer flailed Hyperion backwards before forcing the whole weight of his body on the blade. All the anger and frustration, blending with the blinding thirst to avenge Raijin, all those feelings were sent into one blow, which, unfortunately, plunged into Ken’s chest just as the brainwashing thinned out.
“I need to get you out of here! If it becomes too late, you’ll never see him again.” Ultimecia practically dragged her daughter to the capsule, Fujin shooting static everywhere and thrashing wildly in a desperate attempt to free herself.
Seifer’s breath was hot on the other man’s face, not that he could feel anything anymore. The last thing Ken did was to smile and say in a chocked voice, “She made a *cough* wise choice…” the light in his eyes dimmed, his body went limp and slid away from the blood-soaked Hyperion. Ken’s golden sword cluttered to the floor in a deafening clang.
The earth was shaking so hard, and the walls were peeling so quickly, that Seifer wasn’t able to hear the next sentence.
“If we don’t go now, you’ll never bear his child again.”
Seifer made a sprint to reach the two women, but stopped midway to watch the older knight’s body crumble into dust, leaving the golden sword to heat up and burn like a piece of wood.
Seifer shivered, “That could have been me!” He paused a moment to pray for his friend and grandfather, before turning back to see his wife thrashing and shouting in her mother’s arms, already inside the capsule.
“Dammit Ultimecia! How much more are you going to take away from me?” Seifer growled and sprinted to the capsule, which now held the two sorceresses.
“I kan’t let her stay here and destroy her life.” Stated the elder woman calmly, tears for her brother sliding down her cheeks, “I am old, I kan’t live long!”
“Shut the hell up!” Seifer growled and ignored the pebbles and rocks that were raining over his head, “Don’t go Fuu!”
Fujin averted her gaze, but a minute later, she smiled up at him with tear-soaked cheeks, “I love you!”
“Then don’t go!” he tried to break the glass with his sword, but it passed right through it. He watched helplessly as his sorceress and her mother turned transparent, before Fujin suddenly tried to reach for him. “I’ll be back! I promise!”
“Don’t go Fuu! I need you!” he called and dropped his blade, pressing his palms to the hot glass to reach his love, “Please!”
“Seifer!” the albino called before being pulled back roughly, and then being covered in fog that filled the whole glass globe.
NO!
They were gone… the place was crumbling to pieces… and an explosion erupted, blowing everything to pieces…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seifer cracked an eye open, still feeling the heat of the explosion on his face. Somebody was slapping his cheeks and demanding that he wake up. “Dammit, Laguna, can’t you see I’m- What the hell!” Seifer got up and gazed at the rubble before him. Only the capsule stood unharmed. “Nobody’s inside.” he chocked and got up, limped to the glass globe and gazed longingly at it, “Where is she?”
“Let it go, Seifer.” The frightened knight turned around sharply, and glared into steel-colored eyes separated by a faint scar, “Rinoa went through this too, got back the next day.”
Seifer growled and limped angrily to his rival, punching him straight in the face, “Shut the f&(* up SKUAKK! If it weren’t for you and your stupid KILL ULTIMECIA plan Fujin would have been right here!”
Laguna stepped between the two men, “Boys, calm down!”
Seifer shoved the older man roughly, “Shut up you freak! I just lost my only family there and you want me to calm down? Maybe you don’t care about your loved ones, but hey, get this. I DO!”
Laguna blinked and rubbed his sore shoulder, “Seifer- Almasy, I mean. I’ve lost my wife too! I know how you feel!”
Seifer placed his hand on his belt. “WTH, Where is Hyperion?”
Squall frowned and decided to not hand it to him, he hid it behind his back instead, “We don’t know.”
Seifer spat blood before wiping his mouth, “Listen to me, Skakk, either you tell that freaky sister of yours to bring back my Fuu, or you will spend this night in your coffin!”
Laguna scratched his head and rubbed his leg, “Almasy, we really can’t do anything-”
“I wasn’t talking to you.”
“Maybe if you calm down and listen, you’ll understand something.” Stated the commander quietly, “This explosion had reached to the edges of the Lunar Gate, and we are surprised you and your limbs are still attached together.”
Laguna nodded, “Yeah, son, we know how you feel, we both lost our loved ones. But shouldn’t you be happy for what you have right now?”
A soldier -among many other which Seifer had overlooked- called to the commander, “Sir, I think we found something here.”
Seifer, Squall and Laguna raced to the soldier to find a small, golden band resting innocently on the floor.
“Hyne.” Seifer hissed through gritted teeth, and fought back tears of frustration as he bent down and picked up the ring. “This is… its Fujin’s!”
Squall placed a hand on Seifer’s shoulder, allowing the latter to let all the frustration and anger into another punch. “Damn, I don’t even know why I offered.”
Seifer fought a sob and turned to the president, eyes brimming with tears. “You can’t get her back?”
Laguna shook his head nervously, reaching an arm to the golden youth, “Maybe Odine can come up with something.”
Seifer punched Laguna’s shoulder angrily, the ring in his palm biting into his own flesh.
“Hey!” Squall threatened, “That’s my father you’re hitting!”
The emerald-eyed man placed one hand on Seifer’s shoulder before raising the other to stop his son, “Let it out, it’ll make you feel better.”
“I dun wanna let it out!” Seifer stated stubbornly, fighting a sob and bending his head down in shame to allow the tears to run down his face, his forehead resting lightly over the president’s shoulder, “I want her!” he slumped down, hitting the dirt with an angry fist, “Her!”
He hiccupped and rubbed his forehead into the merciless rubble, “My Fuu…”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Edea looked up from her book to the sleeping man on the bed, a motherly smile spreading over her elegant features. “Seify, do you feel better, sweetie?”
“…”
“You know, it’s been a whole month.” She swallowed nervously, for it always made him edgy whenever anybody spoke of her. “She wouldn’t want you be brooding and starving to death, I mean...” She placed the book down, “You haven’t eaten a healthy meal in- what, the whole last month!”
“…”
“Speak to me, Seifer.” She urged, brushing back golden strands of hair away from the miserable looking face, “You’ve been hugging that dolphin toy the whole time, you haven’t even shaved or showered.” She pouted, unbelieving that the most obedient of her children was like a frozen statue- no, like a zombie.
“Fujin liked this.” He referred to the toy. Matron’s breath caught in her throat, he hadn’t spoken a word ever since the Sorceress memorial incident.
If it would get him talking, then so be it. “She did, didn’t she? Where did she get it?”
“…”
“Come on.” She urged gently, “I want to hear your voice, I missed you so much.”
Seifer rolled to his side and gazed at Matron with miserable eyes, “Why’d you take me in?”
Edea blinked, “Laguna told me you needed me and-”
“-In the first place.” He corrected.
“Oh.” She smiled and brushed back his hair, loving the feel of it, but terrified at the few silver strands that stood out, “Well. A young sorceress said she couldn’t take care of you because Adel was trying to posses her, and that a group of anti-sorceress men were chasing her. She said that it would be safer if another sorceress took care of you.” She smiled and fought the tears that threatened to fall, “Oh, my baby. You were the first child I took care of, you were the reason I started Centra’s orphanage. I bet you looked so much like your father, too!”
He shook his head, ignoring the hairs that dipped into his tired eyes, “No, I look more like Ken.”
“Who is ken?”
“…”
“Who is Ken, sweetheart?”
“He’s…”
“I’m listening.”
Raijin’s killer… Fujin’s uncle… Ultimecia’s brother… our guide… mom’s father… the ‘holy knights’ leader… the reason this whole ordeal started…
“He’s, he is my grandfather, matron. My grandfather.”
