 Prologue:

Steady footsteps strode confidently against the marble-floor of Balamb Garden. Short Blond hair was ruffled in the soft breeze as the excited pace picked up. The gray trench coat flapped at his legs when the Fire-God came to a pause. There, stood his target.

Quiet, slick and smooth, Seifer Almasy made his way pass the plastic plants and hid behind some people, so that the person he was aiming at wouldn’t notice him. A smirk crossed his features as the excitement got the best of him, and he tackled his prey and squeezed it tight in his arms.

“SEIFER!” shouted a harsh voice that had never known softness. Fujin Kazeno was *not* pleased with his little game.

The naughty ex-knight planted butterfly kisses on her soft neck and chuckled. “But Fuu you’re so sweet! How can I resist?”

“SHOO! BUZZ. OFF!” she elbowed him in the gut and escaped his embrace.

“Ow” he leaned on the other person, the cinnamon gullible fellow, Raijin Hefty, then inquired, “hey Raij, how do you put up with her?”

Raijin snickered and shrugged, “Dunno, she kicks my shins when I dont!”

“And you let her?” Seifer made a comical face as he gasped, “How can you Fuu? You’ll cripple your only friend!”

“SHUT UP” she frowned and moved her leg back …in a manner that clearly meant ‘Kick-shins warning’

“Ahh! You can stop right there!” Seifer grinned, “Anyway, we’ve got detention papers to spread, let’s move out!”

“Seifer, detention is really fun ya know, I just wanna know one thing!”

“Shoot” Seifer snickered evilly and caught a specific blond by the back of his shirt, “Chicken wuss, detention”

Wha? What’d I do?”

“You move too much!” replied Seifer, giving him a hard shove, and then turned back to Raijin, “What’s yer question?”

“What do they do in detention?”

Seifer shrugged “Dunno, dun care”

Fujin shook her head “… USELESS”

When they reached the cafeteria, Seifer went to buy them lunch, Raijin started looking for a table for them to sit down at.

Fujin, on the other hand, leaned against a wall and opened her small notebook, what else does she have to go through today? From the corner of her eye, she saw a student behaving a little suspiciously, looking around to make sure nobody saw him, and walking on his tiptoes. She knew he was an amateur, probably sneaking up on his friend just like Seifer occasionally.  The strange thing was that he had his scarf wrapped around his muzzle, as if he didn’t want anybody to recognize him.

She kept an aware eye on him for a long moment, until her senses sharpened when she saw him flash something from under his jacket. She set a quick pace in his direction, but she lost him for one instant when he sat down on a bench. She kept walking though; damn this cafeteria seems bigger today! Suddenly, a scream was heard and everything went. Oh my god! The albino thought! That must have been a gun! That son of a *** must have had a suppressor!

She shoved at the gathering crowd frantically, and then saw a horrifying scene. Black highlighted hair spreading in all directions, as the feminine figure had fallen face first on her dining table. Fujin was the first to act, and she tugged at the victim’s shoulders to see her face. It was Rinoa Kinneas! Sorceress Rinoa! In her lap was a sobbing child; her daughter was frightened like hell!

A second of pure fear and shock took over all of the surroundings, until Fujin shouted for the medics. She tried to concentrate on a magic spell to heal the dying woman, but there was nothing magic can do for a heart-shot. After a second attempt at a Curaga spell, the sorceress’s eyes shot open and she grasped mercilessly at the albino’s arm, “Take them!” she whimpered.

Fujin didn’t understand what the woman wanted, but she tried to concentrate on another spell, damn those people are slow!

“T-take th-them!” Rinoa begged and Fujin looked even more confused. She nodded quickly and was about to turn around to ask for some help, but the sorceress was now floating in the air with a purplish fog clouding around her.

Just when their eyes met, a shot of thunder landed square on Fujin’s head and both girls fell to the floor, unconscious.

Finally able to penetrate the crowd, Irvine Kinneas stood in utter shock to see his wife sprawled on the floor, a blood puddle gathering beneath her lifeless form, their child crying helplessly. His cowboy hat dropped from his head, when he fell down on his knees and touched his wife’s brow. So cold…

Tears started trickling down his cheeks. as he squeezed his daughter tight. This shouldn’t have happened, who had done this?

Chapter one:

White fog, senseless sounds, faces everywhere and magic spells in random places. ‘Where am I? Who am I? What the hell happened?

Oh! Rinoa!

I shot up from my bed wide-eyed, my blood racing in my veins. Rinoa, I hate the girl, but is she dead? Blood thinned out of my head for a moment, and my vision faded... I felt myself drop back on the bed, and then for the first time I felt my surroundings. I was in a quiet place, probably outside or in the infirmary, yeah, definitely the infirmary. An IV was plunged into the back of my hand, and I did not like it... I hate hospitals and I hate being pampered, I’m a SeeD not a puny wuss...

I heard the door open and I opened my eyes. Who would visit me? Maybe that’s a good thing. I need answers.

“Fujin”, a soft voice called which I recognized as Dr. Kadowaki’s, “Are you feeling all right?”

I hate that question “What happened?”

“As for Rinoa... She’s been taken to Esthar. Dr. Odine might be able to help her, though we all doubt it... And as for her daughter, she is still in Irvine’s arms.”

“Poor kid.” I whispered. She shouldn’t have been there, she shouldn’t have witnessed such a thing...

“As for you…” She continued.

Me? What’s wrong with me? Oh yeah, the thunderbolt that struck me square on the head. Was I electrocuted?

“You are feared to be... a sorceress... You might have received Rinoa’s powers.”

A pause... A sorceress? Me? This can’t be... I don’t feel anything… “Negative... I don’t feel any sorcery about me.”

“Well, concentrate on a spell… try it.”

I frowned; maybe I should try giving her a zombie and a couple of Curagas... I hate her... “What?”

“Just try it, sweetie, please!”

I sighed and leaned back, this is stupid... I focused on the tiny-place in my mind where all the magic is stored, but the strange thing was there was something… missing? Maybe the Curaga spells I wasted on the sorceress... I sighed again and rubbed my forehead, this isn’t working...

Ticklish whiteness radiated from the palm of my hand, and I cast a Cura spell on the doctor in front of me. “That good?” I asked and sat up.

Mhmm... just as we expected...

“What?” This cant be! How can she tell?

“You didn’t have any GF junctioned on you, honey, you’re a sorceress now...”

“WHAT?”

“Sweetie,” She smiled softly and sat on the bed next to me. “A sorceress can use her magic without the junctionning of Guardian Forces. If you can cast spells without a GF then... It’s obvious!”

“NO! I’m not a sorceress!” I’m just normal plain shin-kicking Fujin!

“Then where is your guardian force?”

“Its...” – Pause - “That nincompoop Squall drew it from me.” - Frown...

“See... Take it easy Fujin, I know how you feel...”

“NO YOU DON’T!” I shouted, and suddenly she was slammed into the wall by some unknown strong force.

“Ohh…” She breathed and looked at me with terrified eyes, streaks of brown hair slipping against her eyebrows. “C-calm down! Sweetie! Do you need to talk with anybody?”

“NO!” I got up and winced when the IV was plucked out of my vein, as I drew my arm away from it. Warm blood seeped down my hand, and I watched it in puzzlement, with no attempt to fix it.

“Here,” the elderly lady walked cautiously to me, and pressed a piece of bandage on the bleeding wound. “You shouldn’t have done that, you could have hurt yourself,” she lectured lovingly and I felt tears in my eyes. This can’t be! I can’t be a witch!

I grabbed the reddening material and darted out of the infirmary, followed by the voice of the doctor calling. I can’t stay here, whoever tried to kill Rinoa, and probably succeeded, will try to kill me too. I need to leave this place, leave this whole life and live somewhere else... Or die just as simple. No, if I die I’ll have to pass my powers… powers? I don’t believe I even have any, let alone pass them on!

When I reached the main hall I saw a small group of students, Seifer and Raijin among them. Just then they spotted me, and started a running approach towards me. Confusion and fear filled my vision and, before I could react, all of them were covered in blue static and were flung away into the walls and water below. Raijin got up from the floor and peered at me in fear.

“Y-yah know, Fuu-Sama, its me, Raijin.” Tears stung at the back of my eyes, I’m not Fujin any more; I’m just a pathetic witch who doesn't know how to suppress her stupid friggin’ powers!

“Stay away from me!” I warned… before I fry you or something.

“B-but Fuu!” He argued, still approaching, “I won’t hurt yah, yah know? I just wanna talk!”

I swallowed hard and nodded, I’ll try my best Raijin.

You okay?” He gave a fearful smile - I’m sorry Raijin, I don’t mean to frigghten you - “Fuu, ya gonna be all right, right?”

I shrugged, unable to rely on my voice for this.

“Why don’t we go buy ya sumthin?” He attempted a grin, “Want some of that chamomile you always love?”

“No” I shook my head and stepped closer to him, I need to touch him, to be sure that this is all not a dream; somehow I wish that it is.

I reached for his hand, but when we touched, blue and yellow electricity zapped between our skins, and he instinctively drew back his hand at the shock.

Muffled hiccups threatened to surface, He shouldn’t see me cry, nobody should.

Before I even gave him a second glance, I darted to the main gate and ran at a speed I never knew possible for a human being. What is this electricity that is keeping everyone away from me? It must be my luck, I’m an evil sorceress, nobody can touch me and I’m banned from human contact forever. Maybe I should just curl up and die

I found myself in front of Balamb forest, and decided to hide there for a while, at least until people would stop looking for me.  Maybe they won’t? Who am I kidding; of course they’d look for me, that’s what SeeDs are trained for. This is impossible, a former SeeD is now a sorceress, it’ll be a breakthrough. Maybe I should just curl up and die

As I reached the middle of the forest, I heard a loud growl behind me.I turned around quickly, recognizing the sound as that of the powerful T-Rexaur. His tail swiped in front of me and I gasped, I’m so slow! Just as it approached for the unmistakable slam, I closed my eyes shut and awaited the killer blow.

It never came…

I opened my eyes just a peek, and was surprised to se the huge, bulky body of the beast falling to the ground with cramps and spasms all over its body. Then it just froze and the body dissolved into the earth. I did that? I killed the beast? But- how?

I heard a rustle behind me, and my mind wandered back to the SeeDs. This must be them! I ran forward, the strange death of the creature forgotten.

I found myself in front of the entrance to the Fire cavern. Perfect, they’ll never find me here!

I ran breathlessly into the cave, and followed the maze of bridges that covered the burning lava. Sweat gathered on my back and forehead, and slid between my fingers and brows.

I finally stopped at the end of the maze, in front of a lava hole that had an Ifrit statue hanging over it. If I had taken the time too look, I would have realized that the statue was alive, but being so caught up in the simple act of breathing got me distracted.

“GREETINGS SORCERESS” The statue spoke, and I gasped in fear. I blinked a few times, before the grayish color of the monster revived into flashy reds and brownish hues. This is a dream… This is a dream

“I AM YOUR HUMBLE SERVANT” The huge beast bowed to me, and I was shocked at his polite attitude. How can he be my slave, when I am as big as a single palm of his own? He could squeeze my life out of me if he wanted. Oddly, I felt a bit safe with him, and so I approached and looked into those golden orbs of his. I’ve never taken the time to look at a Guardian Force before; it’s somewhat thrilling. The most thrilling part of it is that I can actually understand him!

“You understand me?” I asked, not really sure of any of this.

The beast just bowed to me, without a single acknowledgment that he had even heard what I just said.

“There she is!” I heard a male voice call. Oh no! They found me! When I looked back, I saw at least fifty people charge towards me through the small passage.

I felt large claws wrap around me, and before I had the chance to think, I was on Ifrit’s shoulder.

“WANT ME TO DISPOSE OF THEM?” his voice shook the walls of the cavern.

“Just scare them away” I whispered, using the back of my sleeve to wipe away thick sweat from my forehead and neck.

Without a reply, the earth shook lightly and lava began invading what little passageway the soldiers had. Once they noticed that, they started running back outside, away from the killer liquids. I watched in awe as all the armed forces retreated out of my field of vision, except a single figure that I identified as Seifer Almasy.

“IMPUDENT HUMAN” Roared the fire guardian, sending a Fira spell at the blond.

“No! Stop Ifrit! He’s a friend!” I grasped at his thick hair when I felt like I was going to fall. Oddly, no electricity passed between the beast and me at all. “Please put me down.”

“AS YOU WISH” He went down on one knee, and used one arm to support me as I slid down into the floor.

Glacier-green eyes glared at me ruthlessly. Face wet with sweat, and sunshine-colored hair clinging to his forehead and neck. “Fuu”, he nodded.

“What do you want Seifer?” my question seemed more harsh than I intended it to be.

“You’re part of my Posse, and I want you back.” He took a step towards me, and I feared that I would hurt him if he touched me. Carefully stepping back, I found my self being cornered between Ifrit’s legs and the approaching blond. In a flash, Ifrit’s large hand was placed in front of me in a protective manner. Seifer could never reach me like this.

“I’m a witch now, Seifer. I’m not part of anything anymore…” My voice wavered, all I wanted was just get out of there so I could let the tears flow.

“You’re no witch, you’re my Fujin-sama, and we’re going back.” He argued from behind the wall of the fire-beast’s hand.

“You’re a SeeD, Seifer. Your first priority is to depose of sorceresses, how can I trust you?”

“Leonhart had Rinoa for a long while, she used to be a sorceress and nobody said anything about that.” He argued.

I clenched my jaw and hugged Ifrit’s thumb for protection, “Rinoa used to be a happy butterfly that everyone loved! I’m a beasty killer-woman, nobody will ever trust me!” Tears joined with the sweat covering my face, this is just too much... I want to leave everything and just go back to this morning. I would have let everything pass by and not gone to help the sorceress, this way somebody else would have had to take her powers.

“I trust you Fuu,” his eyes shone, “I’ll be you knight.”

Rage! “That’s all you care about?” I shouted at his face and crossed the wall to give him a good slap of electricity. “I’m nothing more that an opportunity to you, aren’t I Almasy? I should have known!”  Sobs crackled at my very soul and I backed into Ifrit, “Show him where the door is, Ifrit.” I sobbed and turned my back on the protesting man.

“Fujin! That’s not what I said-“

The obedient beast stepped in front of Seifer, and I watched halfheartedly as my former boss cursed under his breath. Feh, fine! But I’ll be following you Fujin! You’re not getting away from me!” - with that he left on his own. Although his words seemed threatening he had never spoken any softer.

I sighed bitterly and fell to my knees; the material of my jeans was scraped and dirty. “I’m so sorry,” my voice clenched into a small squeak and tears ran down my face.

Ifrit returned and watched me as I cried; there was an odd look on his face. I restrained the sobs and stood up, “Thank you, for your help.” It felt strange, thanking a GF, I’ve never heard of anybody thanking a GF for saving their lives, or for helping them save the world, odd... He nodded slowly and returned to the place where I first met him.

“Do I need to fight you to have you as my guardian?” I asked, drying away salty liquids.

“I AM INSIDE YOUR MIND, CALL UPON ME AND I SHALL OBEY”

I nodded and stood there for a long moment. Don’t these Guardian Forces feel anything? He didn’t mind watching me cry, he didn’t seem to mind disposing of any human. Don’t they have feelings for any other living creature but themselves? I wish I never become like that, all I’m asking for is for people to ignore my newborn powers and let me be...

I finally noticed that my clothes were practically dripping sweat, and covered in dirt and burned at the edges. I tossed my hair out of my eyes, and just then realized that my eye patch was nowhere to be seen. Had the doctor taken it off? How dare she?

Everybody at Garden believed the rumors that my eye was scarred because of a monster, or that my mother had done this to me. What they don’t know is that I don’t have a mother, and I’ve never fought a T-Rexaur on my own. As a typical albino, one of my eyes is red, but for some reason the right one is of a different color, imagine that... I hate it, that’s why I kept the blue one covered, yeah that’s right, one iris is blue and the other is red. Don’t tell anyone or you’re dead meat.

I looked up at Ifrit for another moment, then shuddered at the cold feeling that zipped up my spine. He was expressionless, like a beast… wait a minute, he is.

God, it’s so damp in here! I turned around and made my way to the exit/entrance of the cave, looking for some oxygen. The fire-monster never called me or anything; he is in my mind right? I’ll summon him when I need him

A cold breeze ruffled my damp hair and I sighed, finally some real air! When I opened my eyes, I found a humiliated blond sitting on the ground in front of the cave, legs crossed -Indian style- and a cute frown on his facee. He crossed his arms at me and spoke, “Well, well, you decided it was time to speak with the mortal?”

An odd smirk crossed my features and I replied without thinking, “Well, it seems that it means so much to you to speak with a sorceress... So I thought, why not?”

He sneered and got up, “C’mon, lets go.” He stretched his arm out to grab mine, but was prized with an electric shock. Oww! Dammit! What the hell was that for?”

I don’t know. Really! “You deserved it!”

“Aww, Fuu! Come on! I really, really gotta talk to yah!”

“Shoot”

“Not here,” he brushed back what little hair that had fallen on his forehead.

“Then where?” I frowned, “the sorceress memorial?”

His eyes softened and his shoulders dropped, what did I say now? “No Fuu, I’m not gonna turn you in!”

You aren’t? “Why not?”

“It’s not like me to turn my posse in.”

That’s it? “If you don’t, others will.”

“I won’t let them,” he smiled, eyes shining with confidence.

“Really?” I felt like a child, a mere child…

“Yup, they can never pass Seifer Almasy!” He grinned widely, how I love his grin.

I gave a small nod and stepped closer to him, “where can we talk?”

His confident, arrogant attitude wavered and he relaxed “Great, let’s go.”

Why are you like this Fuu?

“Hmm?” Did you just speak?

“What?”

“Didn’t you just ask me something?” I followed him, a safe distance between us.

“No” I didn’t ask anything, your just hearing me think..

“Oh” I can hear what you think?

Yeah, so why are you like this?

Like what?

I dunno  this?

“What this?”

“Huh?” Seifer stopped walking and gave me an odd look.

“How can you speak to me?” I asked.

“I didn’t say anything!” He shrugged innocently.

“Fine, fine. PROCEED” I waved my hand and he shook his head, and then we continued passing through the forest.
