Sigma Alpha Iota Kappa Tau Chapter
About Us - Our Purpose and Our History

Who are we?
We started as the Muse. The Muse was formed to bring Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity for women, to Capital University. We have had a lot of changes over the past two years and have grown to be a positive, functioning group and an important part of Capital's campus. We have been working hard to continue in the Greek process and that hard work has finally paid off. On May 9, 2003, we were installed as the Kappa Tau Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. How did we come to be?
The Muse has a very unique history. The first meeting was held April 1, 2001 with the Theta Alpha chapter from The Ohio State University. Weekly meetings began to discuss the Greek process, inform potential members about SAI, and develop a sisterhood amongst its members. Work continued through the next year developing service projects, fundraising projects, and continuing to organize the group.
October of 2002 brought us to a big step towards the Greek process. We were recognized as an official organization on Capital's campus. At this point, our executive board members (Melissa Joliat, president; Megan Cisar, vice-president; Emily DeArdo, secretary; Janetta Settle, treasurer; and Amy Mueller, Historian) became official, and we could spread our message and purposes to all of campus.
December of 2002 was another milestone for us. The Greek Council of Capital University approved our addition to Capital's campus. January of 2003, we were approved by the Student Activities Office and could now organize Rush activities and plan for our installment May 9, 2003.Why are we here?
The purpose of the Muse was to become a chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. As members of the Kappa Tau Chapter, we take on the purposes of SAI.
