SAHUARO COUGAR TRACK AND FIELD TEAM RULES

  1. You are a student athlete.  Note that “student” comes first.  That is expected.  Take care of business in the classroom.  If your grades drop below a C, you must attend either peer tutoring, or conference period for the subject you need help in.  Bring proof of attendance to coach.

  1. Be at practice on time, everyday.  If you must be late or absent, you are required to tell either Coach Christian or Coach Gaul beforehand, or have a written excuse by a parent, teacher, etc.  Two unexcused tardys count as one unexcused absence.

1st unexcused absence – will not compete that week.

2nd unexcused absence – call home

5th unexcused absence – dismissal from team

  1. Athletes will ride the team bus to all away meets; we will sit in gender-specific sections.  Guys with guys, and girls with girls. There will be no horseplay on the bus.  There will be no lack of respect for officials, coaches, teammates, AND opponents.  Always display good sportsmanship to the other team.  Poor behavior will result in suspension or dismissal from the team.  The use of drugs, alcohol, and all types of tobacco is not permitted.

  1. During meets, be focused on your event(s).  We can not allow boom boxes, Frisbees, footballs, etc.  This rule applies to practices also.  Athletes are expected to stay until the end of the meet.  After the meet, they may leave with a parent if proper paper work has been turned in and approved.

  1. Hydrate, hydrate, and hydrate.  Bring your own water bottle with your name on it to practice.  Dehydration can lead to a variety of problems- muscle pulls and strains, dizziness, upset stomachs, and blurred vision, to name a few.  Proper warm-up and cool down is also essential to injury prevention.  It is mandatory for all athletes to do this with the team.  Failure to do this will result in dismissal for the day, and count as an unexcused absence.

  1. You will return all equipment issued by the school.  If you are in a field event, you are responsible for your equipment. Unless you have turned in uniforms from other sports, you will not be issued a uniform and will not be able to compete.

  1. You are expected to give your best effort in all practices and meets.  Be positive at all times and encourage your teammates.  Positive attitudes and efforts lead to positive results.

  1. You will compete to the best of your ability in every event to which you are assigned.  Coaches will determine scratches or exchanges of events with others.

  1. Report all injuries to the coaches and/or the trainer.

  1. We are a team.  It means a lot to other athletes when they see their teammates support them.  When appropriate, please give positive encouragement to athletes who are working hard at practice and at meets.  This is how we create a fun and successful team!
