THE DAWN
By
Sandra Osborne
As I stand alone up on the balcony
And watch the twinkling stars
Its cold and still about me
As I wait for the dawn of the morning hours.
Have you ever felt this lonesome
Upon the midnight hour
Did you ever have a tear roll down
Without your thought or power?
I shiver as I pull the shawl
Closer to surround me
But there’s no warmth, the kind I had
When you were around me.
I look back at the vast empty bed
And the book that lies there waiting
There’s no hope in heaven
I could read or sleep
When my thoughts to you keep fleeting.
Lonely long nights
And just as long empty days
I miss your dear face
And your sweet loving ways.
It was the little things that you do
That made me fall in love with you
The way you bent and tied your shoe lace
The way you gave in with grace.
Have I told you lately
Its like heaven
When you are around me
Moonlight, magic and music
Ever did surround me.
But now all is silent and icy
As my bare feet upon the ground
Believe me I’m just nobody
When you are not around.
Is it friendship
That keeps us apart?
Can we be free of social taboo,
Ere we can start?
I would like to know you better,
I would love to know your middle name?
Just help me a bit, my darling
To play this winning game.
Awake and fly to me
This very night
And keep me company
Till ere the sun is in sight.
Come hold me close,
Or sit in this chair
Here share with me the bliss
Of the clear morning air.
Stay with me, dearest
Just tarry awhile;
Let your heart speak softly
And gently to mine.
Do you think about me
Just a little bit each day?
Or, are you now married, mutant
Or, just that little bit gay!
You speak no words
But I hear it all;
Though it agonises at times
When you say nothing at all.
We could never hurt each other
We care so much.
So, is asking for your love
A little bit too much?
The trees below me sway
In a frightful fit
Don’t you like me at all,
Even just a little bit?
I worship the ground
That you walk upon
Look, my darling! Here comes the dawn!
Meet me tonight
On this same balcony
And honesty too
Shall keep us company.
In the darkest of nights,
In the deepest gloom –
My love for you, my dearest
Will always, always bloom.
So, goodbye for now
My fair sweet
Every moment with you
Has been a rare treat.
Remember me, throughout your day
I’m not far, just a phone call away!
I needed to say I love you
Through all our strife
If I didn’t say “I Love You”
I would regret it throughout my life.
Cause I just love to show you, baby
Just how much I care for you.
I just love to love you, baby
That’s the best thing I do.
You always bring out joy
And a sense of happy fun
No wonder you are always
And still the ONLY ONE!!
