THE MOTH

THE MOTH

Have you heard the popular expression like a moth to a flame?
Let’s understand the phenomena behind the fame.
When a moth appears attracted by your porch light
Its actually calibrating its flight
You see it’s just an orientation tactic
As moths are positively phototactic
That means moths have a tendency to move towards light
Roaches on the other hand are negatively phototactic
Which means their tendency is to move away from the bright.

Around the bright flame the moth has a hard time leaving you’ll find
With its slow adapting mechanism going back into the dark renders him blind
Thus trapped between light and dark it flutters about adjusting its eyes
To the illumination until the searing heat scorches it to its untimely demise.
So you see you can be ‘in love’ or you can be wise
But like the moth
You can’t be both.
