SON

THE DAWN by Sandra Osborne
SON

Those early days when you were born
Fresh and healthy as the glorious dawn
Bright, bouncy with eyes so blue
You were this mother’s joy and a dream come true.

Redolent with the goodness of milk and butter
When you smiled every heart went a flutter
From the top of your golden hair to the tips of your tiny toes
You stole the hearts and minds of all my friends and foes.

As you grew in love and delightful wonder
You crawled, walked and ran with amazing splendor
You could rhyme early and listen to a story all day long
You could reason with logic before you were waist high and strong.
Throughout your growing years your father’s face
Remains a picture to behold
Love, pride, joy, admiration as seasons unfold.

Your early years were as precious as can be
Now my life is half run and you are still as dear to me
You are beloved of the Gods and a gift to my very end
You are a cherished son and a dear, good friend.

What wisdom can I leave behind,
What love can I keep in store?
When I am gone and you are sad as never before
Look then to the Heavens and to the Earth
I shall always give you comfort in sadness or in mirth.

Pardon any sins of my parental past
Just remember good memories will outlast
And a Mother, A Child and their Story
Will still triumph in a future with all its glory.

You have filled my life with happiness from your very birth
Every mother wishes a son like you on earth.
You have inherited a timeless journey
And my blessings urge the Fates to deliver
All the good in the Wealth of the Worlds to you,
Now and Forever!
