SILENCE

THE DAWN by Sandra Osborne

SILENCE

by

Sandra Osborne

They say in space there is no sound
And that there is darkness all around
And in that vacuum when planets die
They cant be heard or is that a tiny white lie?
There is gas in space and sound can propagate
Very slowly, very weakly in that state.

You and I are shrouded in our very own silence
Exchanging nary a word nary a sentence
In the vacuum we have rashly created
Love barely survives, feels cheated.

Silence because I won’t apologize?
Silence because its hard to recognize
The truth of what I said
I know conflict is what you dread.

But you speak the truth always
And cannot tell a lie you say
Yet when I tell it like it is
You won’t stand for this.

Strange are the ways your affection works
If I am down with flu
No cuddle or comforting words
Not even sight of a tissue from you.

Instead you throw back your head and guffaw
Mine’s not an illness of merit
You put forth.
Atishoo! Atishoo! Atishoo! again
Does my head have to roll off
Before you understand my pain.

Pouting and smarting you retreat into your shell
Leaving a vacuum of silence as dark as hell
Where no warmth penetrates
No understanding permeates
Compassion crushed in stride
Overruled by pride

So trivial a matter
So profound a state
So alarming an attitude
So deep a wound

When all else didn’t matter
But we
We didn’t see the big picture
For the tree

A stiff upper lip is very well indeed
But think! a stiff body in the grave
With a head stone that reads
I loved but not enough.

Its not what happens to us that shatters
Its how we choose to deal with it that matters
Gardeners of love and friends forever we swore
We stopped nurturing and mastering our minds
In Love, O woe!

Decay is the saddest state of affairs there can be
Why not instead be the best we can be?
There is no me when you do not exist
Surgically removed my heart you did.

When we tend to hide behind visor, shield and sword
We give passage to love to pass us by now
We might believe silence speaks louder than words
But love finds a way somehow
It is because it’s the Armor of God
That breaks down walls.

What lies behind or what lies ahead
Is less important than what lies within us
When the greatest thing is to love
And be loved in return
Why do we lose focus, why do we fuss?

I’d like to stay away from you
But if we didn’t find our way back together
I would die
I’d like to say you didn’t care for me
But if I did that would be a lie

Silence is golden but cold and barren
No warmth if you’re healing your pride therein
On the other hand blossom and fruit laden
You’ll find the tree of love
Whether you are in Aden or Baden Baden.

You know silence can be broken
But love is like war it is said
Easy to begin
But difficult to end.

Stars might grow cold
And our bodies tired and old
But let not the fire fierce we share
Bright and pretty
Die so callously.

Let our hearts unfold
Bright as hot coals
And sing to each other
The song that lies in our heart.

Forsake your silence
Repent no more
Love directs your course!

Love is beautiful
Love is sublime
Haunting and often times
Taunting you to master her.

Blessed are we
For all to see
That once in a while
Life springs a beautiful surprise
Gives you love so true.

Silence could mean searching
For a fairy tale ending
True Love begins but has no ending.

Let us see normal things
In an extraordinary way
Let our hearts and minds
Again meld and find their way
To the unquenchable fountain
That is our love.
Only then will our pain and cares slip away
And the shadow of life appear less menacing,
For to love is also to live Life to its fullest.

Love gives you wings, passion
That makes you come alive
Be better than you were born to be.
Its an unquenchable thirst
A desire so fierce for the embrace
That keeps you warm in the darkest nights.
Silence makes you grow old, cold and unforgiving
If you were meant to be born to solitude
God would not have made Eve
Or ordered animals two by two
One male one female
Into the ark.

So harken to the wisdom of the ages
As the ink flows from my pen
It foretells
From this dawn to the brightest
That is Heaven
I shall love you above all men.

A part of me has grown in you
And may in silence it fester
Hope and longing
Wishing and willing
Our days back together.

My love for you is like a running brook
And if you forget the song it sings
I’ll sing you the melody with a winged heart
In silence we might be apart
But never, never ever, in the heart.
Morning, noon or eventide
Love makes the world worthwhile.

So arise my love, shake the shackles of silence
Be bold, be brave, be unquestioning
Of Love.
Love without restrictions,
With a burning desire
Or a tender kiss.
Let the ghost of silence be vanquished
By its own perspective
Grow instead in gratitude
For we were born for Love
And in love we shall be
For all the world to see
A season at all times
A reason at all times
To be happy
For and in one another.

I am like you sometimes
Bitten by the silence bug
And when in that silence I touch God
I see Him frowning
Not pleased to see me
I ask why Lord
I have obeyed all your commandments
His reply is gentle but repeated
Not if you cannot forgive seventy times seven
And not if you cannot Love one another as I have loved you.
My silence breaks and I float down to earth
Happy I have this life to live
Happy I have this love to give.
