EXCUSES

THE DAWN by Sandra Osborne
EXCUSES

Hello Jesus, I will not be able to make it to Church tonight
It’s too cold to be stepping out into the frigid moonlight.
I am so comfortable and warm at home with a hot drink brewing
While its freezing to the bone outside and softly snowing
Right now I am tired by the hustle bustle of the day.
As I speak I can hear the church bells ringing from not far away.
Please if I am not at Church I know you will understand
Why I can’t be there to lend a hand
In wishing Joy to the World on this beautiful silent night
For I have gifts to wrap up and its taking me all night.

Alas, I cannot come by tomorrow too, I am afraid
I shall be spending the day with Uncle Rod and Aunty Jade.
Their children and grandchildren will be coming too you see
We’re going to gather around a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.
In our fancy new clothes and plentiful presents to uncover
Also rich plum cake and a flaming pudding to rejoice over
I will be happy faced and rosy cheeked before the day is done
So if I am not available you should know where I’ve been gone.

So Jesus I just thought you really ought to know
It is your birthday celebration mass but I really can’t go
For all the reasons that I have explained to you I can’t see how
With so much to do I’d be able to make it to you now.

I am looking at a Star shining so bright outside
When all work and play are done I’ll be by your side.
I think I hear the wind whispering in the trees
“Fall on your knees child, fall on your knees”!
I’m so busy with people and the holiday scenes
I simply forget what the day you were born means.
I do want to come to your manger and also read from the Holy Bible text
Will it be okay then if I visit you Sunday next?
