CONSCIENCE
By

I have been saying this all along
She and I don’t belong
The attraction was never there
There is nothing I could share
I don’t care; she’s got to learn
So, let her burn let her burn!
When we met she was attentive
Tall, proud and executive
I caught her eye, there was a spark
So I invited her out for a lark.
I offered friendship, expected no spurn
So why should I yearn?
Let her burn, let her burn!
She’s in love with me madly
I know that for sure
As God made green apples
And words that endure.
But let her burn, let her burn!
Never loved her; never did; never will
Yet my mind is never quiet, my heart never still.
Who has got to share and who has got to learn
Why should it be me?
Let her burn, let her burn!
She now chooses to be silent with stiff upper lip
How can I assure her, what can I give?
She asks for no quarter, there is none I can give.
How can I free her, how can I live?
There are days of gloom when I toss and turn
And pray to God, don’t let her burn
And let her burn, let her burn!
