David O.Marks Sr.

Aya Family,

The following is a tribute written to David Marks, Sr. at his death. We are posting it for everyone to read. If anyone else has a tribute to an ancestor, feel free to send it to Diana to be posted on the Tributes page. Diana's address is in the contacts portion of the website.

A warrior is set free of the bonds of an aging and broken body. Tears are shed for those left to travel the earth without the visibility of a loved one. A great man has passed to a place where our spirits are free. A chief can stand tall in his bonnet with his staff in his hand once again. His wishes will be carried out by the loving hands of his wife and children. Many will come to honor this great chief and pay respects to his family. Many will mourn the loss of his presence and guidance.

We will honor this great man one last time. His body will be placed in his cherished regalia and will be laid for all to see. Our chief was happiest when he was with his clan and his drum. Tonight he dances with the ancestors in joy; but with sadness, he watches our grief of his loss. As he visits us at different times in our lives, we will feel his presence. Our memories will keep him with us.

Pemitshyn shall take his sacred herbs, seeds, and tools and will begin a new journey. Where does this journey end? I do not know, but I am less wary of my own journey knowing great warriors, such as Chief David Marks, have taken this path before me. I will see you again.
