Past Events Second MTC Gathering Well, our second language class/outing was a small, but successful, one. Everyone enjoyed making "body parts person". Along with fun, learning, and togetherness, we visited a site which was very important to the Myaamia many years ago. Neewe to the Veteran's Shrine and Museum for allowing us to visit and use their outdoor facilities as well as the Veteran's Museum. We hope to see everyone at the upcoming Marks' and Miami reunions in August. Don't forget the Pow Wow in Columbia City on the second weekend of August!! --David and Diana Cranbrook Just a note to let you know about a trip taken by a few of the Turtle Clan elders. David, Diana, Betty, and Lynn went to the Cranbrook Institute and Museum in Bloomfield, MI on July 10, 2006. Kevin Kelly, our guide through the archives, was wonderful. He allowed us to peruse the artifacts at our leisure. Armed with our white cotton gloves, we touched, held, and examined to our hearts' content. We are hoping that each one of you will someday make the trip to see all of the wonderful artifacts protected by the Cranbrook Institute. Plan a whole day, or longer, because they have lots of other wonderful exhibits to see as well as our Myaamia artifacts. You can view more photos of artifacts on MTC website Photo Album.
First Clan Language Class We were 26 strong with the young and young at heart at our first Turtle Clan language class. Some of the Clan met at Lakeside Park for an afternoon of learning and fun. We started with the basic tools for eating and the number system for the Miami language. The younger kids had a blast with their language project. A potluck lunch added to the already family atmosphere. Between lessons, the children ran and played while some of the adults discussed language and planned for the next language class and Spiritual outing. The women planned a day of activity for next month as well. We wish to say 'newee' (thank you) to those who attended and participated in the MTC language class. Hopefully, everyone had fun and learned a lot. If we work together, we will all be speaking Miami by next year!
