Unspoken Feelings

Some things in life are hard to share
Even with those whom we care.
We tend to confine our feelings inside
Knowing well it won't make anything right.
We say, "Others will judge. No one would understand,"
But we ourselves are being judgmental even beforehand.
"What if they disagree? What if they start to criticize?"
All the what ifs, we try to rationalize.
We are victims of fear prevailing in our heads;
Thus convinced it's better when things are left unsaid.
It takes great strength to keep our emotions unknown,
And a whole lot of courage to face them alone.

Looking closely into our innermost core,
We find ourselves struggling behind the closed doors.
We are hoping that someone would bring us the key.
It may have passed us by a couple of times,
But we are just too scared to see.

Sometimes what's residing in our hearts
Is the very thing that sets us apart.
