In My Mind

Your eyes hold the mystery of your being
Focused at me, they convey nothing
Standing there, you take me in
I look away not knowing where to begin

A conversation won't start with a closed mouth
I opened mine to speak, but nothing came out
Words. Where are they when needed?
Must be sitting everywhere except in my head

Gathering my courage, I gaze at you again
I could have melted right there and then
A stunningly beautiful smile graces your face
I try to run away, but firm hands hold me in place

A soft delicate hand brushes my hair
I defeatedly slump my shoulders totally unaware
Your gentle thumb on my cheek wiping the tear
Your other hand over your heart as you say,
"It's all about what's in here"

A figment of imagination, a picture in my mind
Nothing can hold me back, not even time
I'll know that my wait has been worthwhile
When I am finally rewarded with your smile.
